Knocks as police deny officers scooping fallen tanker fuel

Some Nigerians have knocked the Nigeria Police Force for refuting allegations linking its officers to a viral video showing uniformed personnel scooping fuel from a crashed tanker.

A viral video, less than a minute long, captured on Monday, shows a fuel-laden tanker overturned by the roadside, with individuals dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms seen scooping fuel.

The uniformed men were observed loading fuel-filled jerrycans onto a van parked near the rear of the overturned tanker.

While PUNCH Metro could not confirm the time or location of the incident, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the event occurred outside Nigeria.

Adejobi further clarified that the individuals in the video were not members of the Nigeria Police Force but rather uniformed personnel from a neighbouring Francophone country.

“The viral video circulating in the media, depicting uniformed personnel in camouflage scooping fuel from the wreckage of a crashed tanker, was deliberately released to discredit the Nigeria Police Force. It is important to clarify that the individuals shown are not officers of the NPF.

“They are uniformed personnel from a Francophone country, whose camouflage uniforms closely resemble those of the Nigeria Police. Furthermore, the individuals in the video were speaking French, not a Nigerian language or English,” the statement explained.

Adejobi stressed that under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police remained dedicated to upholding discipline, professionalism, and a commitment to public safety.

“We strongly condemn the spread of disinformation and unverified news aimed at tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force. Such actions not only undermine the force’s integrity but also have significant negative implications for the nation and its citizens.

“The Nigeria Police Force, under the IG’s leadership, remains resolute in upholding discipline, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to the safety and security of all Nigerians. Any acts compromising the force’s reputation are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Adejobi affirmed.

The NPF also called on Nigerians to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it, urging citizens to support national unity and safeguard the credibility of institutions dedicated to public safety.

“We urge all Nigerians to verify information before sharing it, fostering national unity and preserving the credibility of institutions working tirelessly to ensure public safety,” the statement concluded.

Despite the spokesperson’s clarification, Nigerians on X.com questioned why the individuals in the video were wearing Nigeria Police uniforms.

“If they are not police, who are they? Even with a clear VAR, the Nigerian police will still deny something,” @Dwizardking wrote.

@Horlar_SefPaid added, “Let’s not forget that these people also have families to feed. But lying to cover them up is what I don’t understand.

“This government lacks integrity; they can lie at any point in life. Imagine seeing blue, but they are telling us to our faces that it is white.”

Is it the same police that will see black and call it white, that we expect them to accept this?

Same police that will open fire and kill a Nigerian citizen and will return to station to say that the citizen was on the police wanted list?

Police that will claim he will kill you and nothing will happen?

Same policepolice that's is boldly written on every station that BAIL IS FREE yet you pay alot to bail yourself over a crime you never committed?

Did he say integrity ?

Police and integrity in one sentence ?

Joke of the year !

Police scooped fuel and must've been intimidating other people while at it.

Hehehehe, I was waiting for this. No integrity anymore in this country. Everything now na lies and deceit. What will it take for them to say, "9h, it's our guy alright. We apologize on his behalf and we'll see to it... Disciplinary action". But no, they won't. Awon Werey!

Knocks? Even with the explanation of the PRO shows nothing but a clear mindset bent on crucifying the Police, regardless of the situation.

This is nothing but a reflection of how 'lowly esteem' some people have held and still holding the NPF due to their unpalatable personal experiences.

The NPF should intensify efforts at getting rid of the bad eggs in their folds so as to improve on their not too good image.

The NPF is one of the weapons fashioned against Nigerians, very unprofessional and mediocre entity

Imagine police officers that ought to know better are the ones doing things like this.

Their is no known crime the Nigerian police has not committed against Nigerians and Nigeria

The sad thing is the forces command is not doing anything to reorientated these lots, nothing nothing, the entire Nigerian security agencies needs to be overhauled for good, because this is sad

the Nigerian police is never beating that allegation of unprofessionalism

It's sad that as a young man in Nigeria before going out you start checking routes to avoid the NPF, because of you jam them for road, 90 percent of the time you just remit wether you like it or not

they are human being too ,

but the bad ones among them keep spoiling their names ,

it just that they never think before they act mostly when they have been bribed ,

they did not think of the fuel explosion ,

and they danger it will cause ,

they don't care if their action affect innocent people .

is it not the same Nigeria police that we all know .

You still have a lot to learn at public discuss and mannerisms.
You really need to learn how to pass your opinion without insults, it's important.
..and no it's not boldness.

Funny enough I watched the video and believe that it happened outside Nigeria.

However it is sad but seeing this level of distrust people have in NPF is not surprising giving their reputation. They’ll always be accused of lying and people will never believe anything they say.

Stupid opinions have to be outrightly chastised and not pampered with so-called public mannerism.

You're constituting a nuisance with one nonsensical opinion simply because you're looking to stand out from the pack, when that is in fact, entirely unnecessary.

Again, go and watch that video carefully before coming here to vomit trash!

I don't see anything different from fuel scooping and open collection of money on every Nigeria roads by the NPF.

If they can not address the issue of road collections before now, they shouldn't tell us anything.
