I am happy with this thread. I purposefully avoided commenting earlier in order to read other people's comments. Many of those who oppose them appear to have become sufficiently educated about them.

We may dislike Bola Tinubu, but these bills convince us to support him in this area. We will keep opposing some of his bad policies, but lets support the good ones. Let us make Nigeria work. This is our only chance to tell the north to go to work.

Well done everyone.

Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by MT: 11:38am On Dec 03, 2024
Yes

1, it removes multiple taxation on businesses which eventually kill the business, and which also discourages others from running business in Nigeria.

2 It introduces healthy rivalry among states. States with intelligent Governors who can think out of the box will always attract businesses to his states.

3. It is a subset of regional government.

4. It is fair

Not in support..
The federal government said the tax reform bills will reduce the price of foodstuffs, goods and services..how will it reduce the price of foodstuffs goods and services.. when the high costs of fuel is the one causing the high costs of food stuffs, goods and services and causing inflation..the floating of the naira is also deprecriating the naira against the dollars and also causing fuel, diesel to be expensive and also causing imported goods to be expensive.and inflation...so if all this issues is not tackled and addressed by the federal government.the high costs of fuel, disel and deprecriation of the naira against the dollars..1750 naira to a dollar now...price of foodstuffs, goods and services and inflation cannot go down and the tax reform bills is not the solution to Nigeria problems and the inflation
Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by descartes400: 11:43am On Dec 03, 2024
The Major essence of the Tax Reform bill is to stimulate the Economy.

I likened the Tax Reform Bill to as the " Art of Stimulation" of the CLITORIS on the Vagina! What happens when the Clitoris is aroused?...

Therefore using the tax reform, the economy must be skillfully stimulated to achieve the desired orgasm.

And if you are against the tax reform why?
Tax reforms will give more monies to states. States will be incentivized to provide real infrastructure to attract investments and the amenities to attract high quality residents to their states. If you keep your vat, then you need doctors engineers lawyers etc to populate your state not okada riders, farmers and almajiris who don’t pay VAT. This will curb the migration to the SW. people will leave Lagos because right now Lagos is unloveable but people are remain in Lagos because there are no viable alternatives. You will stop hearing nonsense like “I have not borrowed money” from governors when they need to borrow to build the infrastructure to attract the industries and residents to their states.

2: Governors will take security seriously because they can’t attract investment and high quality residents if their states are unsafe

3:as a result of the above, if the north develop their potential, they will eventually make more money that the south. The north is actually richer than the south. They have the largest agric and mineral potential. Once they realize they are making more money from agric and associated industries as well as mining that they were making from saharinf VAT and oil from the south they will leave the south in peace and we will have true restructuring. The SS will keep their Oil money. The SE will be forced to develop their region. Nobody will care who is president because it won’t make a difference to your life. If they want they can hold the presidency and the military for life, nobody in the south will care!

1. Any states claiming they have the numbers should use that number to generate taxes not population that is a nuisance to the general Nigeria.
2. Hisbah is destroying alcohol in the north, whereas, VAT generated from sales of alcohols in North Central, Southern Nigeria 60% of it goes to those states destroying the alcohol.
3. Oyel money from South is for Nigeria while Gold in the north is for northern politicians bandits.

What % of Nigerians pay income TAX? Less than 3 million people?? LOL.

To a poor man, the bigger problem is the current and ongoing deduction of N50 on all transactions above N10,000 and the various VAT deductions on your purchases.

They sold you some freebies about personal income tax, which more than 85% of Nigerians dont pay anyway, and simultaneously instructed Opay, Moniepoint, etc. to start deducting una N50 on all transactions.

How can you benefit from something that is not your business in the first place? The one wey concern una and the majority of poor folks, una ignore. grin Wetin concern poor man with small kiosk with personal income tax?

How have you helped him if he still has to pay N50 to CBN on all transactions, multiple N200s to POS agents on top 10k withdrawals, and various undocumented tax to states and local government agberos? We nor get sense walai.

I don't believe Tinubu on this tax reform. Nobody knows his agenda cos all his policies have never affected the masses positively. I'm from South west but I say NO.
Tinubu's policies will pay off later, not now. He's doing all this to right the wrongs that past leaders were scared of, and the purpose is to remove the bottlenecks that is stoping Nigeria from growing economically.

He understands very well that things are hard but we need to suffer momentarily to get to the promised land. It's not easy for him as well, you can see the anger on him but he's ready to take all the bullets to get Nigeria to grow.

When he's through, his policies will lift up this country economically for the coming generation. The man is an economic mathematician and he knows exactly what he's doing. People have been saying this but I didn't believe it until now.

If what Tinubu is doing today had been implemented by other presidents since 1960, we'll have been living in paradise in Nigeria today.
Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by faceland: 12:07pm On Dec 03, 2024
The proposed tax reform in Nigeria has its pros and cons. As the saying goes, "insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results."

I want the freeloaders to take responsibility. However, the consequences of this reform could be severe.

Some states might instantly go broke and punish their local populations, potentially leading to revolt against the federal government. This wouldn't be the first time they've taken drastic measures, as seen during the GEJ administration. Now, they're poised to mercilessly implement these tax reforms on locals. For instance, if you earn up to ₦3,500 a day (not profit, just sales, which includes okada riders and mama put), they will come after you for 10%.
This feels like "subsidy is gone" all over again.

Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by nairalanda1(m): 12:17pm On Dec 03, 2024
Yes, because it is looking like the end result would be that states start taxing those who don't pay tax to the government ...which is most of their population.

It won't improve the IGR by much because we have too many poor people, but it might reduce the number of states reliant on oil money for survival, and maybe, maybe may make resource control finally a viable option.

On the other hand, we can continue relying on oil revenue that on a good day can only sustain less than 10 million of us.

Meaning...government keeps on borrowing. (IMF Is already tired of us coming to beg them for more money. They have been saying so in many ways for over 10 years).

It's effing fvcked...but either we start getting our government revenue sorted out...or we end up like Sri Lanka. No money, no thing...then we have to vote in a government that would have to do IMF reforms by force....because no choice.

Yes..

Reduction in tax burden from the current multiple taxations from FGN, State and LGs..

Tax exception for low income earners

Tax exception for low profit making SMEs

Will bring non tax payers to tax net

Will give more tax revenue to the states and allow states compete for socioeconomic development

There are still pockets of nuisance Obidients, bitching about Tax reforms because of election loss, all over the place but thankfully they are becoming easily identifiable.

alanto:
Two reasons. Tbough I earn more than the 800k a year. (Meaning I will continue paying tax) It makes sense that people earning less will not be taxed going forward.

Second reason is. Most of the time when VAT stats are released it feels like Lagos generate most VATs, like other states are not trying to do much, mean while these other states are constitutionally shortchanged for Lagos.

It's a welcome development. It will also give a real insight of activities going on in the states. And the states will be richer.

It's an insult to a place like Imo to be said to have contributed meager N200m in VAT whereas most of the things consumed in the state were unjustly taxed by Lagos, Rivers and Oyo.

The proposed bill is fair. Very fair to all.

I see Ogun earning way more in VAT generation than it's presently doing. Same for other states with population and commercial activities.

The richer you are the more tax you pay. The poor pay absolutely no tax except VAT on purchased item which is not a bad idea.

I'm in support because a lot of Nigerians who earn below #1,000,000 won't be paying tax

I support the tax reform because it can help reduce the burden on low-income earners and boost economic growth. If they can remove taxes on essential goods, it will make life easier for those of us who are struggling. This kind of change is what we need to benefit everyone. By the way, I offer shared apartments in Lekki and Lagos Island for those looking to share rent or short let. If you have an extra room to rent out or are searching for space, please contact me. We are also adding shared shops and commercial spaces based on demand. My services are limited to Lekki and surrounding areas.

You all think the Abokis don't already have first hand knowledge that Tinubu want to corner Nigeria's tax to his Alpha Beta company like he is currently doing with Lagos revenue, You mean you are not knowledgeable that Tinubu's company Alpha Beta collects 10% monthly from Lagos State Government for collecting State Revenue on behalf of the state?

Tinubu's greed is insatiable, his greed is as deep as a bottomless pit...thank God that God made death possible and mandatory for every human being on earth, If not someone like Tinubu wouldn't mind bribing death.
