Getting an immigration lawyer, would be her best bet.
For someone who couldn't even afford childcare for a day......Either ways, she is still in hot soup.....may God see her through, she must be going through hell right now

Really sad but the mother was careless.

I work in children social care with a London borough. She is an overstayer and that makes her continued stay in the UK, illegal and boroughs are already overwhelmed with requests for foster care from parents who are British. The cost for a week foster care for a toddler could be a minimum of about £600 (N1.3m per week) and local authorities are not eager to spend public funds on persons who is illegal in the Country.
I think this explains her situation.

The child paid the ultimate price in this whole thing.

Why's her situation in UK that pathetic to the extent
of sleeping on sofa without a permanent home and asking for placement for a 2 year old?

And she got pregnant with a British son in that condition too.

Was she prohibited from bringing her toddler along while visiting her sick brother ?

It's situations like this that makes one value family and community support one gets back home.

This story elicits lots and lots of questions though.
She was already pregnant when she got to the UK.

I don't want to blame or shame the bereaved mother but she should have taken the toddler with her to the hospital or squeeze out money to take her to a daycare. May God console her and rest the soul of the poor baby
Squeeze out money from where? If she had money. She wouldn't have seek help from Social welfare .. trying to get a foster home for her daughter.
Someone that is sleeping on a sofa. Obviously, she has an accommodation problem and no money..

Man go carry una japa, una go enter finish and say you no longer need him.

According to the article

Aunty came to UK on her husband's visa in March 2021.

But shortly after, her husband was not good enough for her and she cut off from him. This point was clearly stated in the article that she couldn't obtain public funds as she cut off from her husband n became an overstayer.

January 2022, a mere 8 months after landing in the UK, her child which ordinarily would have been with the father to look after was left in the hands of strangers n drowned.

Madam, you doomed the fate of that child the day you left the man that brought you to UK. Pikin was constantly sleeping on a sofa.
It's very possible that man she went to the UK with wasn't her real husband, it could be arranged.

Think of it, if that man was the father to the drowned child, he wouldn't be cut off from the child even if he has an issue with the mother.

It's a painful experience to the bereaved family may they be consoled and compensated with another baby better than the lost one.

She "kicked" the man out and still homeless? There are a lot of Nigerians here with messed up relational/marital stories with both living rough. This story has the vibe of arrangee marriage, the British man got paid to be the husband and facilitated their coming to the UK.

I wish she had a support system, even the local mosque she attends or Nigerian community to rely on.

The Nigerians in the UK are not very communal-minded, everyone is in their own enclaves and mind their business. Even when they form groups, it's rarely to help out but how to benefit from taking advantage of one another.

Nigerians are not very helpful in general.

If she was Indian, a family would have taken that toddler in.

We need to do better as a society.
.Nobody owe you anything in the UK . They can choose to help or not it their choice....Is either you sort yourself out or crawl back to your country.
You came to the UK without any solid plan, but looking for good Samaritan......

If she kicked the man out,she will not be sleeping on sofa with the children and will have a house to herself.Likely the man kicked her out on the street to fend for herself.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
May the mother and the sick boy find healing and comfort.

She probably did not take good care of her in terms of monitoring. Toddlers need 24/7 monitoring even if theyre not troublesome.

The mother is not working or cannot work, infact she is an illegal immigrant. She also cannot get council support. The moment she and her partner were separated she lost everything. The only thing keeping her over there are the children who are British citizens.

It's not perculiar to Nigerians, its Blacks in general. Nigerians, sometimes if you jam those from same conservative religion or tribe like you might help.... But in general, blacks are something else in the West!

Forget the nonsense of been implicated... if you accommodate someone and the person turns out to be some else, the West are pudent enough to find out and let you off the hook.... but black hearts filled with tribalism and competition or fear to let the other know they are not doing well compared to the pictures they upload on Socail media wont let so many of them to be human!

Poor baby!

It's irritating when you are reminded that most females consistently show an complete inability to deliver balanced judgement on relationship cases.

From the time frame it's obvious that this lady broke up with her husband not long after relocating to the UK and likely did so believing that she would get her papers by herself.

The breakup was successful but the papers didn't come through and she was left to fend for herself.

Instead of you to speculate that like most women who feel that they no longer need their husbands, she probably didn't tell the ex that she needed help with their daughter and tried to go it alone as indeed modern feminism teaches.

You spared no thought for the man who must have scrimped amd saved to get his wife and daughter over only for her to break up with him and leave with the kids or her with the daughter and the pregnancy.

I am assuming the boy is his although I may be proven wrong as who knows whether his paternity led to the break up?

Even if that wasn't the case,do you know how acrimonious their split may have been?

Now you want to blame the man for not being around when she might have even moved away from the city where they lived together.

The UK is very hard for a single mother of two who is an illegal alien.

Of course, she is unlikely to accept responsibility for her bad choices as just like you did, it's easier to blame the man.

Firefly2017:
No one is asking where the child's father washuh? At a time when one child is having open heart surgery, and the other needs to be taken care of, the father is nowhere to be found?? Even if they are separated isn't this a a time where they put their differences aside and be there for the kids no matter how busy they both arehuh At least they mention there that her partner is a UK resident.

You have not help but you got pregnant with the second child when the first was a year when you have no support system.

Are you a child bearing machine? What happened to birth control pills or insisting on condoms during sex?

I just pity the poor kids ignoramus like this woman keeps birthing.

Na people like this full Nigeria. She.might even get pregnant for the third child immediately after the surgery. I have zero sympathy for people who deliberately bring hardship into their lives.

RIP to the innocent child.

Another irresponsible mother, she has not confessed who she truly went to visit. Do hospitals in the UK bar women from taking children to the hospital to visit a relative. She is using her crocodile tears to cover for her callousness.
Typical Nigerian behaviour. Always ready to blame and cast aspersions.

I have noticed that most Nigerians are quick to throw blames instead of empathizing.

Visit Nigerian platforms like this, and foreign platforms you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Abeg we can do better...

Let's choose kindness and empathy, it doesn't cost anything...

Her son that needed surgery is British. Sounds like she deliberately got pregnant for a citizen just to remain in the UK. It's not uncommon with some desperate women.

ure implying the 2 kids have different fathers? If an immigrant family births their child in the UK doesn't that child automatically become a UK citizen?

I'm still curious to know where the kids fathers is while she's dealing with all this situation. It shouldn't be her alone. And I won't be surprised if she gets pregnant again in some months.

No. The child doesn't automatically become British if the parents aren't. But an overstayer can remain if they have a child for a citizen. Not sure what went wrong in her case.

It is implied there are two fathers. The article stated her son is British, giving the impression her daughter isn't.
