Burning smoke also contains Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide. It has almost the same effects as generator fume.

Most people who die in fire die as a result of inhaling the fumes, the actual fire just finishes the job.

Who told you the volumes of smoke(from partially combusted materials) pouring into the rooms from the burning roof did not contain carbon monoxide??

Carbon monoxide doesn't only come from generator fumes
Every fire in an enclosure(like in rooms, roofs, etc) generate massive amounts of carbon monoxide because the oxygen present in such enclosed spaces is not enough to fully burn/combust the materials present.

You don't have sense of common science. While your body is sleeping, you can easily die from asphyxiation because of lack of oxygen, your body can't get enough oxygen hence you die in your sleep.

God saved me from similar experience many years ago....was alone in the one room apartment and left my candle burning in an empty polish can.
I placed the can on top of the big TV set and slept off...lo and behold, something woke me up in the middle of the night and I saw the TV set burning and black smoke everywhere in the room!
I quickly used water to put out the fire and open up the curtains and went outside....I was coughing and coughing out thick black stuff!

You are trying to use a physical/natural law to justify your belief in a non-existent spiritual stuff
The physical ''object/body'' in Newton's 1st law of motion plays no part in the external force that will eventually act upon it.
That force will act upon it whether the object wants/prays for it or not.

But in your religious stuff, the 'object'(man) must pray for the external force(spiritual force) to act upon it. And if for any reason he forgets to pray, the force won't act, even if he's dying.
That's not so nice
