I Got Scammed 587,890 Naira On Facebook. What Do I Do Please? by Hormorlarah(op): 2:16pm On Dec 04, 2024
Dear Nairalanders,
This is my first post on this platform. Please, I got scammed on Facebook by one Damilola Abike Fatai, using her Momo account and Carbon account of Oluwanifemi Olamilekan Akintunde.
I recently got into the palm oil business as I see there's a business opportunity in it here in Minna. I buy from Osun at the rate of 42k and sell in Minna at the rate of 57k. I had just little money, so I talked to a few people who showed interest, and they contributed and get their percentage every week. 4 weeks into the business, the palm oil price skyrocketed in Osun, and we started looking for where to buy at a lesser price so we won't have to increase our selling price, because we already sell like 5k below market price. We couldn't get cheaper palm oil; the price kept going up, while the market price was coming down in Minna due to competition, and my customers were seriously demanding for palm oil.
The pressure was much, so I decided to go on Facebook to source for palm oil millers that can sell for me with payment on delivery. I made a post and received a number of DMs and comments. I knew scammers would be among, so I was taking my time. One comment that caught my attention was that of the scammer. She wrote, "I have in Minna for 49,500, would you be able to pick up? Very fresh and tastes good." I told myself, why not? Even if it was 50k, I would be willing to, as long as it's even closer to me. To cut the story short, this scammer never gave me a hint to doubt her. She delayed it so much that I started calling her severally. She would tell me tomorrow; I would call her tomorrow, and she wouldn't pick or not even go through. If she eventually picked, she would say her phone is faulty, and she has been managing it. Fast forward to the 3rd day of going back and forth with the scammer, she called me last week Wednesday, and I told her I went out, and I would call her when I get home. I got home and called again, and her number wasn't going through. The next day, she called that she didn't see my call, and I told her I did call her. So I asked why the delay, and she claimed her customer she does send the oil to has sold the ones she had before, and she had to send another 43 gallons which had arrived, and I can go pick up, and that the oloriburuku guy has already started distributing the palm oil to sellers in Kure market, and she didn't send him. I asked for the guy's number, she sent it, and I called the guy, but it was already too late that Thursday as Kure market closes at 6 pm. So I told the guy I would come on Friday. I am enrolled in a software engineering course at ALx and also started cloud engineering at Altschool, so I hardly have time, and I needed to be at the service area I go to study. So I sent my partner in business that usually runs the errands and the keke man that helps bring the palm oil from the park whenever they arrive. When they got there, saw the oil, and they called me it's a good oil and that the gallons are being filled. The scammer called to ask if we are satisfied with the palm oil, and I said yes. And then, she sent her account details, and my people called that I can pay that the oil is up to 12 gallons. All this while, the guy attending to them at the shop was also calling the woman and telling her to send money. But the people I sent weren't aware of what was going on. So as I was making the transfer, my partner called that although there is something they noticed, but we'll discuss when they get home, that I should quickly pay so they can leave early. I paid and was called back that the shop guy said he doesn't know her and that he posted his market on Facebook, and she called that she would send some people to come and pick up the palm oil for her. At that point, I knew I have been scammed. So I immediately picked up my phone to call my bank, but their number wasn't going through. I took a bike to the bank and dropped the necessary details, and they said they will call me. Please, Nigerians, I started this palm oil business so I can afford food and data while scaling through my learning phase in tech. This scammer has just taken every penny I have and also put me in debt. I haven't informed my investors about this at all because I feared they would start asking for their money immediately, which I don't have. The following are the accounts and phone numbers the scammer used. Please help me. Her numbers are still active because I tried to reach her with my other lines, both on WhatsApp and voice call, and it went through, but she blocked it again. Please i will appreciate if there is a way to track this scammer. I can't even concentrate in learning anything because of this debt.

Momo account - 0810 462 9438 Damilola Abike fatai, I sent 137,890 naira here.
Carbon account - 8259671686 Oluwanifemi Olamilekan Akintunde I sent 300K and 150K here.
Opay - 9169105225 Damilola Abike fatai. she also provided this opay acocunt but the transaction failed.

The shop guy is an aboki, the real shop owner is an igbo man, the aboki said he do snap the oil, add his own profit and post on facebook and the scammer is the first person that would chat him up for patronage. He showed us their chat history.

Those banks are not commercial banks o, momo, carbon, opay. Never transact bigger money business deals with all these digital wallet banks, always request for normal commercial banks like zenith bank, GTB, access, UBA e.t.c it's easy to trace and recover your money back with those commercial banks compare to moniepoint, opay, palmpay e.t.c the person na scammer that why he's transacting with those digital banks

These stories always happen the same way..

You are sending over 500k to someone through proxies.. I won't even send 100k to someone through proxy.. and trust me I do a business turnover of over 2.5million every month.

Hope this serves as a lesson to would-be acting CEOs.. you are delegating your business to your bike man and errand person, while transferring 100% of your capital like a boss..

My candid advice... report to Police Anti-Fraud unit and be ready to spend some sizeable amount of money, they can track the transaction and account owner... put pressure on your bank too.. they can help.

Good luck to you.

Stop any sort of online transaction to save your self all these sort of stories. Anything you want to purchase, go there physically and buy it.

I really don't want to blame you but delegating duties at these early stage of a business is not good at all. Business most especially the ones that requires buying and selling ought to be giving full time attention.
You go out and buy your stuffs physically, pay and bring it home yourself instead of online transactions that most results to tears.

If only you went with the keke man to the pick up place, you would have spoken directly to the seller and you would detected the scam on time cos I don't see any reason why I would transfer money for the goods I'm buying to any other person when the seller is right in front of me..

This would have also provided an opportunity for more profit by cutting the scam middleman out.

Be more careful next time, you could check for AYO on twitter @sepril23Ng, he's quite good with his stuff. He can get you the pictures, current address and other stuff from these details that you have, hopefully it's one of those scammers who do not like their pictures advertised when threatene.d

Good luck.

Any online business deal that does not use commercial bank is hardly legit.
This is because to trace the account won't take much stress

This is a very common scammer's name on Facebook who has been called out severally for others to be warned and be aware, next time, search the name and phone number of anyone you intend to transact with on Facebook, it will show any of them who has scammed anyone before, it's been their smart method for many months now. Sorry

BREAKING INFORMATION: Wrong Transfer

In case you mistakenly transferred Money to the wrong account and the owner blocked you? or you are duped thru your bank account? and then later realized that you have been scammed or a mistake on your part? And the receiving bank is not cooperating?

HOW TO RETRIEVE YOUR MONEY AFTER YOUR WRONG TRANSFER

Please read carefully and learn.

Many people don't always know what to do, so today am sharing with you things you do when you realize a page you paid for a service or goods is ghosting you:

1. Write out the Full name and account number of the page or person.

2. Go to the last notification your bank sent you after you made the payment (via mobile app or text) and copy out the "TRANSACTION ID NUMBER".

3. Go to any branch of the scam artist's bank (the bank you transferred to), and ask to see the CUSTOMER SERVICE in charge of FRAUD.

While you are there, send an email to SCAMMER'S BANK or the d bank u wrongly paid to and copy CBN FRAUD DESK (anticorruptionunit@cbn.gov.ng) n also cpd@cbn.gov.ng
& contactcbn@cbn.gov.ng, this will ginger the bank to take it up fast.

What should you expect from this? The culprit/suspect's account will be PLACED ON HOLD. His BVN will be blocked permanently. No account will ever be opened nor will he be able to transact banking business in that name until he clears himself with the bank.

Meaning he/she cannot transfer or withdraw until they visit the bank, and when they do, the bank will contact the police, and the suspect when proven guilty will sign a waiver allowing the bank to refund your money.

Do and thank me later.
