It was not like as if other regions were feeding the old eastern region. there were needed food imports and raw materials that were imported via PH port, that was blockaded by the Navy to prevent ships bringing in food supplies to Biafra (Old Eastern region). The same Awolowo visited Ojukwu before the Biafran war started and he issued a press statement that if the East secedes, the West will follow. Only to change tune when Gowon offered him finance commissioner, he changed tune. This was where we missed the chance to put the north in their place, if Awo had taken that decision the North and Gowon would have decided to come to the negotiation table.
That was what made igbos hate Awolowo, let us not deceive ourselves here.

Awolowo was playing a hatchet game for Gowon to make Ojukwu delay the announcement. Only for Gowon to split the country and abolish regions and create states to talkative the igbos and ensure that the coastal states have igbos as minority that was why he declared secession.
