The fish is supposed to celebrate inside the soup and not stand apart as if it was the days of apartheid.

Yes fresh fish can be added to stew or soup,it all depends on timing so that it cooks and gets properly done by the time the soup n stew is ready..same as other soft proteins..

[quote author=englishmart post=133172655][b] You're basing your comment on assumptions. What has putting your fish fresh have to do with hygiene? Won't the fish cook eventually? And who set the standard?

huh

Most people who prefer cooking their fish 🐟 or meat 🍖 always use the pre cooked water which is known as gravies to cook their soup 🍲 to give it more taste...

Majority of people say the fish is supposed to be precooked before adding it to your soup.
What difference does it make? The fish will eventually absorb the ingredients from the soup, still, making it taste great, too.
What do you think, guys?
Does cooking it this way speak to culinary incompetency
The thing be say

You're paranoid.

If that bothers you, then just wash your fish with lime.

We Yorubas don’t precook fish, so I don’t know the majority that you are talking about. Check all the supporters of precooked fish, they are from one side of the country that don’t eat salt nor oil

Actually most of the times, I do not precook fish. To me its even more odd to precook fish.

When you precook fish, it becomes too brittle by the time the soup is done.

If the soup is the type that takes a good amount of time for the ingredients to boil together, then you shouldnt be precooking fish. That way the fish doesnt get brittle too quickly.

MadamVanessa:
shocked

Who would add fresh fish to soup without first seasoning and partially cooking it? The properly cooked fish not only tastes sweeter and better but also reduces the strong odor associated with fresh fish.

If I were to visit your home and witness you adding uncooked, fresh fish directly to your soup, I would immediately infer that you lack culinary expertise and possibly maintain questionable hygiene standards and would never eat that rubbish.
you have been eating fish wrongly woman. Fresh means fresh inugo

I would rather OP marinate the fish first before dropping into the almost done egusi soup. Fish typically doesn't take too long to cook so it's no big deal what he did.

As a food safety expert that I am, I think @madamVanessa is right.

When it comes to dealing with raw items (like fish, meat, etc), the highest standard of hygiene must be followed. This is so as to avoid cross-contamination. The number of microorganisms that are present in these raw food items cannot be over-emphasized. Hence, improper handling or cooking will lead to contamination, thereby resulting in foodborne illnesses. Note that there's a certain temperature that these raw food must be cooked to be able to eliminate the microorganisms that are inherent in them.

It doesn't matter. This is how I cook sometimes, jollof rice, Plantain, fish sauce, and so on. This one gives me better taste than precooked, especially in fish sauce.
