Who would add fresh fish to soup without first seasoning and partially cooking it? The properly cooked fish not only tastes sweeter and better but also reduces the strong odor associated with fresh fish.

If I were to visit your home and witness you adding uncooked, fresh fish directly to your soup, I would immediately infer that you lack culinary expertise and possibly maintain questionable hygiene standards and would never eat that rubbish.
For me there's nothing wrong in it, as a matter of fact, I'm craving a fish stew today, after buying the ingredients, i decided to add the fish this same way the op did, cause that was the taste i was craving for. so, I feel it depends on someone's choice. But I feel it has nothing to do with hygiene.

I feel like it makes the soup fishy which is okay sometimes but at other times, it’s not what you want. Just depends on your preference at the moment

It does not matter, since the fish will taste nice, I don't pre-boil mine when cooking, I cook it together with the soup or stew.

Majority of people say the fish is supposed to be precooked before adding it to your soup.
What difference does it make? The fish will eventually absorb the ingredients from the soup, still, making it taste great, too.
What do you think, guys?
Does cooking it this way speak to culinary incompetency
Fish should boil for longer time, but your soup should not boil for longer time,
To balance the equation, you have to preboil your fish first

So if you want to make pepper soup you boil the fish separately then put it in your seasoned boiling pot again?

You don't understand the post.

Exactly!
It's wrong, you need to boil it first before you can add it.

Every ingredient has it time frame for cooking, for example vegetable timeframe is low, same with egusi, onion and pepper.

Most of this ingredients doesn't require long cooking, whereas Fish, meat do.

Now when you add it like this, by the time the fish is cooked, all the other ingredients would have lost their structural integrity and become too cooked. It might be okay on the first day, but on the second day, it won't be okay for eating.

Re: Does It Matter If Fish Is Incorporated Into Your Soup This Way? by ultraviolet27(f): 9:29pm On Dec 05, 2024
Una brain dey shake Fish that takes less than 15 mins to be properly done is what you are saying it has worms, larvae bla, bla, bla from what I was taught in Agric and Biology their was never anywhere I saw that Fish contains worms when it ain't water snails that can harbors liver flukes?only maybe some kind of Fishes that lives in the Oceans or Seas like Dead or Black Sea which might have been contaminated with poisoning like mecury or any other industrial effluents and those still don't harbor worms.

Although I don't like Fresh Fish in my Egusi Soup I don't even like it at all except I want to add to my Fried stew, better still just opt for smoked or dried Fish to avoid precooked undercooked stress and it will even taste better!!

Meat is understandable. It has to be precooked to soften it. You don't have to soften fish. And it's not like you throw away the fish broth after cooking. I don't see any difference
Depending on the part of meat.
Then in the village, granny will put meat on the fire and start adding stuff. Fish is usually among the last. And everything cooks so well and tasty.

If you take pepper soup outdoors, nobody cooks the fish twice. Most if not all restaurants do the same thing.
