KOGI STATE IS A FARMING COMMUNITY.

The industry they need is a company that can manufacture tractors, trolleys and other farming implement.

They should forget about this steel business.

It would help if you had steel to manufacture AGRO MACHINERY

Everything about that plant was flawed from the onset, LOCATION, BLAST FURNACE TECHNOLOGY (Enugu coal cannot

In summery that plant cannot work irrespective of who's in power,peter obi,Atiku,jagaban. The honorable minister should know better and if she decides to ignore the obvious then its gonna end up like just another white elephant project.
Feasible studay has been done but they all chose to ignore but rather use it as a money milking project.

"ASP is an 800 hectares blast furnace facility built on a 24000 hectares land, west bank of River Niger. The project site was not chosen for convenience, rather for political reasons. Iron ore, found in Udi and Agbaja, is 266 km and 370 km away respectively. Coal, found in Enugu, is 242 km away also. These three locations are within 130 km radius to each other. Had the plant been situated somewhere between Enugu and Agbaja, the plant and the raw materials could have been within 50 km apart only. In addition, Ajaokuta is 250 km from Lagos coastline, Nigeria’s biggest steel market and the main commercial seaport Nigeria has had to date. Not only this, it was difficult significantly for the construction of support infrastructure for the plant. The plant’s site was undulate and rocky, and sloped considerably toward River Niger. To condition the site appropriately, infrastructure works had included extensive levelling work, a massive stabilization work to the river bank, construction of flood canals, a river port and extensive infrastructures for power and water. These had meant 21 million m3 of earthwork in site levelling and terracing, 1.7 million m3 of reinforced concrete, 0.21 million tonnes of structural elements, 0.181 million tonnes of equipment, 60000 tonnes of refractory bricks and 65 km of standard rail gauge within the facility (Matusevich, 2003). If these descriptors are isolated, Nigeria has not had a considerable reputation in delivering very large projects with similar extreme complexity before the ASP (Oyeyinka and Adeloye, 1988)."

Independant marketers placed the landing cost of imported fuel at 970 and NNPCl is selling their which is refined here in Nigeria for over 1k. And you're saying it's better for us to buy it that way.

Or are you not aware that the economy is linked to fuel. Meaning if the price of fuel goes up, the prices of food and other commodities would definitely go up.?

It’s this same Markerters that once refused to import because they claim that the landing cost was 1300 or thereabouts when dollar price then was hovering around 1500..
So what changed now??..dangote came on board and they are claiming they can now import at 970 with dollar at 1700??..remember the air peace scenario..it was when air peace got the London slot that BA and other airlines knew they could airlift Nigerians for below $1000 to London..
Do the maths and see who is deceiving who..
2. Port harcourt refinery just started operation..they are not refining but blending!!..I don’t expect their cost to be the same…
All that is important is that there is fuel..enough of subsidies!!!

Lol....u guys don't seem to understand the situation of that mega project. These companies are just here to make money out of the project.
Even if jesus comes down from heaven to support that project,it won't see the light of the day. Ajeokuta steel production is not commercially viable. Due to the following
1) coal deposits in Nigeria cannot be used to produce coke which is one of the major raw materials needed to produce pig iron. An alternative is to use a different technology (direct reduction process using natural gas which we have in abundance)
2) low ferrous content of iron ore deposits. Since we can't use the blast furnce approach due to the quality of coal deposit, we could still produce pig iron using direct reduction process but now here is the drawback, direct reduction process requires iron ore with ferrous content greater than 70%. ( ours here is less than 40%)
3) low exploration of raw materials- so let's assume the germans somehow find a way to maneuver these challenges stated earlier,we do not even have enough raw materials on ground to support commercial operations of the blast furnace;once the furnace starts operation,it is designed to run continuously for over 10 to 15 years without shut down, where do we get the raw material to support the furnace.
4. Not commercially viable to import raw materials- so let's say somehow the plant starts operation and we decide to import raw material to support local exploration,the cost of steel from that plant will be so expensive and not economically visible;its gonna be cheaper to import steel from Antarctica than to produce at ajeokuta.
The list of challenges is endless,the most sensible thing to do is to scrap that project and count our losses. This is not politics but economics, science and common sense. But in this part of the world politics comes first.
