It's not easy for us private school teachers. Although I'm not complaining. Not that the school pays much, but I'm not complaining at all. 😎

I love my job!

I earn enough to get by. One thing I didn't do is have a mindset of 'I'm being overworked'. I just accepted everything as a challenge, with a determination to overcome.

These days, I do the 'throwing at' to those who are inspired by my story (and example). For those who already have a defeated mindset, I don't even bother about them.

My story can't be everyone's story. I only advise that you push yourself to your limits. You will eventually outgrow that school and you're positioned for the next level.

Itooweak4una:
Good day Nairalanders,
Two months ago, I came here seeking advice on whether I should take a job as a private school teacher while also taking a virtual assistant training
https://www.nairaland.com/8218337/teaching-job-virtual-assistant-course
, or focus on the virtual assistant training while staying at my mom's place (something I was reluctant to do due to some reasons).
I received advice that I should take the job, as it would at least sustain me and take care of my basic needs. Well, I followed that decision. However, it wasn't easy at all. Firstly, at the school, I was given six subjects to teach (Civic Education, National Value, Security Education, Literature in English, Marketing, and Agricultural Science), and I was also asked to teach JSS1 to SS3, which was against our agreement of me teaching at most three subjects and only to the senior secondary class.
The pressure was so much because I discovered that the students were lagging behind, as they had yet to complete the previous term's syllabus.
Before accepting the job, I was only having around ₦28,000. I never knew the kind of hunger I would encounter. Bro, I don't know how to put it into writing - the kind of hunger I faced was unbearable. After two weeks on the job, eating became difficult; most times, I went to school on an empty stomach. It was then that I understood why some teachers eat their students' food. I was placed as a class teacher for JSS1 students, and these students eat in the morning immediately after school. You need to perceive the aroma of the foods. I won't lie; I was tempted, but I never did that - I never touched any of their food.
Eba and egusi became the only food I ate for breakfast and dinner, and I would drink garri in the afternoon after getting back from work. Most nights, I cried myself to sleep because I had never suffered like that in my life. I even thought of suicide, but I had to talk myself out of it.
I hoped that when I received my first salary, things would be different, but when I actually collected the salary of ₦32,000, I realized how bad things had gotten in this country. Nothing changed because I realized that if I decided to buy or eat certain food, the money would not last beyond the second week after payday. I continued to eat my eba and only ate rice once a week. It was hell, mehn, all the while I was still undergoing my course.
I just had to make a decision that I needed to quit the job and go home because if I continued, I might do something bad to myself, facing those challenges. So, in the second week after my salary, I went to give the management my resignation letter, giving them a two-week notice. They didn't want to accept it because I initially promised to work for at least a complete term with them, but I didn't care anyway because I was fed up and frustrated at that point.
I went back to my mom's place, and now I've successfully completed the Virtual Assistant training. I'm seriously looking for a job role as a virtual administrative assistant or any role that requires someone to assist you. I can help you manage your calendar and email, plan travel, work as customer support, track your expenses, and many other tasks. I am available and have the resources to work both remotely and on-site.
So sorry for all these..

Do not believe everything you hear for words can be quite deceptive.

This particular subject matter has been treated severally on this forum and it makes me sick each time another person comes to rant about it.

Firstly, for a supposed graduate to settle for 30K salary. That tells a lot about the person's supposed "education". Like seriously? huh

Secondly, there's a popular saying by George Crane that "there's no future in any job, the future lies in the one who holds the job". Teaching or no teaching, an unproductive graduate is simply unproductive. If they want to make 6-figures monthly (even as a teacher), there are ways to go about it.

How many of them are willing to register for training? Both free and paid. How many are ready to enroll for certification programs? How many are willing to undergo months of formal and informal training? Have they done any of these and not reap the benefits? Absolutely no. Then, they should be content with their 30K monthly stipend.

I have trained several teachers both online & offline, I have offered opportunities to many, I have mentored many. But eventually, it all boils down to their desire rather than "wishful thinking". Whilst some are genuinely ready to improve themselves, many others are quite lazy and are only looking for quick money. You guys should stop demonizing the teaching profession. You should either go all in or go home.

PS- to that overzealous mod that banned my main moniker, your life go bend like egungun preeq. angry huh

#Picks_tooth.
