Many metals and their ores have such an appearance, and shiny lustre...
If possible, I'd suggest you take a small piece to a laboratory for a simple AAS test.
You would then be certain what base metal is present.

This is Galena, a native ore of lead it is always found along with chalcopyrite and sphalerite. They are mainly found within the folded shales of the asu river. In Nigeria, their mineralisation is mainly pb-zn and is generally called the isiagu lead-zinc deposits of south eastern Nigeria.
