FG Condemns ASUU's New Demands by Nancydearie(f): 3:33am On Nov 26, 2013 |
ABUJA — The Federal Government, yesterday, condemned the new conditions which Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, insists must be met before the five- month old strike could be called off. The three conditions were payment of four months salaries, which accumulated during the period of the strike; immediate implementation of the N1.2 trillion offered by the government to public universities, starting with the release of N100 billion this year and the balance of N1.1 trillion to be spread over five years from 2014. The union also demanded that the salary arrears must not be paid in piecemeal. These were some of the resolutions reached by members of the National Executive Council, NEC, of the union that met in Kano on Friday. Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, condemned the new conditions but assured that he would present them before President Goodluck Jonathan. EBSU breaks ranks, recalls students Meanwhile, the management of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, EBSU, yesterday ordered lecturers and students of the institution to return to classes following the inability of ASUU to end its strike. A statement by the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Sam Egwu, stressed that the institution had resolved to resume academic activities regardless of the ASUU-FG dispute, adding that academic activities would resume in all the campuses of the institution from today, Tuesday, November 26. EBSU chapter of ASUU however, said that lecturers would not return to classes until their demands were met in line with the position of its national body.SOURCE:www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/fg-condemns-asuus-new-demands/ |

I think its time these political party called ASUU or ASÙN (goat meat barbecue ) shuld be registered by JEGA for 2015 election needless of calling them academics, they're not but political tools in the hands of the opposition. The Logo of the party should be represented with the head of a big black goat. 3 Likes |

ASUU are not even considering us the students. What about our house rents that has gone to waste dis five months? We students have lost our rent money for this year and we won't get it back and no landlord will listen to our pleas, so now I ask myself... Why are they demanding for salaries for the months they didn't work? |
Re: FG Condemns ASUU's New Demands by GboyegaD(m): 4:46am On Nov 26, 2013 |
I support EBSU backing out the strike and I would suggest other State Universities follow suite since ASUU is actually fighting more for funding for Federal Universities and don't care about State Universities and besides, the tuition they pay in most State Universities are way higher for these Universities and their respective government to provide the basic needs for a conducive teaching environment. |

I'm in total support of ASUU in their struggle. Just take a look at institutions outside the country and the types of graduates we produce yearly, then you will get the drift. However, I don't agree with ASUU that they should be paid for the period they went on strike. These guys are smart and want a win-win situation. Let them also feel the impact of going on strike. Let them suffer a bit just like we the students did. Let them prove to us that the strike wasn't about money or them but to better our institutions and by implication, us. |

ASUU is being selfish! But i think the best thing is for FG to pay them for the three month and then they should review the labour rule, making sure that the No work-No pay is clearly spelt out! For now there is no place where No work No pay is written in the labour rule. period! 1 Like |

One of the rules of negotiations is that you should never appear to be too eager to heed the demands made. I think the federal government is defaulting on this rule, and that's why these goat—kissing ASUU has the temerity to add demands on demands. The federal government should just bloody ignore them till next year, and that's when you will see them begging to be allowed back to classrooms. Christmas is around the corner, and I'm quite sure that they are going to need their damn salaries for it |

Let the government bone ASUU because their demand is becoming outrageous ! Till next year tinz be dat. If they fought for the interest of the Universities let dem forfeit d salaries as part of d struggle/sacrifice to better our schools. Why ask for 100bn for ds year wen d year has ended. Hmmm...ASUU don join Yahoo yahoo and d get rich quick syndrome. |
