Trueprophet91:Actually many bacteria can survive high temperatures, especially in spore form, and even if the bacteria itself is killed, its toxins might still be present. |

optimusprime2:Thanks. Now it's my turn to shock you. Your statement is actually correct, but it's not correct for the reason you think it is. Many of you on this thread are acting as if there is zero risk of bacterial contamination in this scenario. I should probably start by informing you that foodborne illnesses in remote or resource-constrained areas are often underreported or misdiagnosed, which means that we don't even have a complete picture of the risks involved in the first place. There's also the fact that zootonic diseases (transmitted from animals to humans) are more prevalent now than ever before thanks to multiple changes in our environment that has altered how disease and disease pathogens work and/or function over thousands of years. Changes brought about by habitat destruction, climate change etc. and it's because of these factors that modern health standards are highly prioritized across the globe. These are not fantasies but hard facts of life nowadays. Bacterial contamination is very real my dear. |

PapaNnamdi:If you truly didn't care, you wouldn't feel the need to respond. Your funny story only proved that some people can survive in spite of their environment, not that bacteria are harmless. Next time, read a science textbook before talking about things you don't understand. |
| Re: Would You Eat A Delicious Leftover Bushmeat From Your Puppies by PapaNnamdi: 9:53pm On Dec 06, 2024 |
MsIjeoma:Ever heard of immunity/ immunization/ vaccination What do you think is being injected into the body? A bacteria is rendered harmless once it's embedded in your immune system, The more exposed ur system is to varieties of bacteria, the less likely the body gets sick from an encounter a second time, Nobody can survive a bacteria attack unless he has been previously exposed The reason most bacteria seem harmless to us in Nigeria is because we have been previously exposed to them growing up, So yes bacteria can be harmless depending on the being in question Stop quoting me, It's one thing to read a book it's another thing to understand it's content. |

PapaNnamdi:I don't even know why you're still trying to argue. You believe your neighbor's child's immune system has grown resilient over time due to constant exposure to dirt and germs. No problem. But please get it into your head that you're not making any actual scientific argument against the inherent dangers of bacteria. There are many factors that can affect the way you respond to illnesses. Starting from the type of genes you have, to your diet. In fact your overall health in general dictates how susceptible you might be to certain diseases. Your use of vaccine as an argument is not good enough because vaccines usually work by introducing a weak or inactive form of a pathogen to the body that stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies without causing illness. It's not the same thing as just being exposed to bacteria, which can lead to infection and disease. This is just you conflating your own ignorance with basic science. I don't derive any joy in quoting you Mr man. Remember that you quoted me first. The point you are trying to argue here just makes no sense. Let's even assume that your statement about Nigerians being granted immunity to these kind of diseases is an absolute fact. So what? Are you now saying that because you think we're automatically protected from illnesses that we should throw all caution to the wind and not take precautions to minimize our exposure to harmful bacteria. No seriously tell me, what are you really arguing here? If you don't care about your health, I care about mine. And I'm sure many people reading this topic care about theirs too. Abeg let's try to promote healthy living. Let's not take life and nature for granted. |

MsIjeoma:It's the same my dear, You just don't think for yourself or think outside the box, U follow what you are taught hook line and sinker, But for a lady to know small book, in this generation we are in can only mean you are above 30, cos no lady below 30 knw book this 2024 So I will just pat your back, Just don't follow what you are taught, most times what you know is right and what you are being taught is wrong, The more the exposure the stronger the immune system, take it or leave it. PapaNnamdi:Oga this has nothing to do with "thinking outside the box". My argument is very simple: we need to acknowledge the proven dangers of bacteria and the importance of taking precautions to minimize exposure. Your problem is that you're just uninformed, if not I don't see why you should be engaging in a discussion about health without regard for facts and evidence. Science doesn't establish facts based on anecdotes or personal experience, so if you like tell stories from now till tomorrow. It won't matter if your stories are not in line with the general scientific consensus on health standards. Your chauvinistic comment about ladies knowing book or not knowing book is also very unnecessary and it just shows that in addition to being stubbornly ignorant, you're also a very condescending human being. It's not a good look for you, I'm just saying. |
| Re: Would You Eat A Delicious Leftover Bushmeat From Your Puppies by PapaNnamdi: 8:18pm On Dec 07, 2024 |
MsIjeoma:My personal doctor, Do not be offended if my statement was condescending, I am blunt most of the time Okay, listen, before studies proved these valid points : Acquired immunity When the body is exposed to an antigen, the immune system creates antibodies to defend against it. This process is called acquired immunity, and it can help the body recognize and fight off the same invader in the future. Regulatory pathways Exposure to a variety of organisms helps the immune system learn to balance attack and tolerance mechanisms. This helps the body avoid overreacting to harmless allergens or itself. Immune memory The immune system can "remember" germs it's been exposed to, even if it's never seen them before. This memory can help the body fight off infections more quickly. I already knew it through experience from illnesses and diseases contracted. Although most pathogens are dangerous when one is exposed to them, the hemorrhage virus, some classes of bacteria and so on, So yeah you are right, (just so peace will reign, I don't actually mean it😋) But if I see bacteria in person, I am hugging it and taking it home to live with me and my family,🌝 |

PapaNnamdi:Yawn. It's cool that you've managed to memorize the CliffsNotes version of immunology. Now if only you'll be intellectually humble enough to read the actual textbook. If bacteria were so harmless against us, then it means we should practically be metahumans. At any rate, your experience with illnesses is about as valuable as a toddler's understanding of calculus. Thank the heavens your beliefs are not widely accepted within the public health community. |
