Ukraine deserves to be given security guarantees for the future if they were to give up lands for now. They had bad luck sharing border with Russia.

You can try to blame the west all you want but much of the blame falls on Assad himself. He had ample time to make defensive fortifications and modernize the military but he failed to do that after a few success they had in the past. Perhaps he didn't trust his allies.

For the Russians, it was a smart move to choose their battles wisely, it would have been foolhardy to try to save someone who doesn't want to be saved. The Russian naval base in the country would be fine, it would just be like another Libya, so many factions and so many foreign vested interests. I think the Russians have nothing against the Israelis.

However, the Iranians had much more vested interest in Syria, it was more a hub for their operations against the Israelis, a breeding ground for attacks against the Zionist with help of Hezbollah and other proxies.
Just as the Israelis use proxies like The Sistan and Baluchestan insurgents in Iran. So I consider this a big win for the Israelis.

Finally, as it's evident in Libya, the country would continue be politically destabilized, another win for whomever is occupying oil fields and millkng the resources. What country could that be ?

I never thought I would see the day people on Nairaland would cheer on terrorist, perhaps they have no problem with terrorism except against who it's directed against.
The media even make up phrases like moderate-rebels to white wash terrorism.
It show how unscrupulous and hypocritical people who claimed to be principled are.
