It's on the border with Syria and Lebanon, and it's got a good view of the surrounding area. That makes it a top priority for Israel's military ops and surveillance.

Now, Israel's main motivation for taking control of Mount Hermon's Syrian side is to keep Iranian and Hezbollah forces, or any other dodgy terrorist groups, from getting a foothold in the area. By controlling the mountain, Israel's preventing any terrorist groups from using it as a launchpad for attacks just in case.

It's also about disrupting the flow of weapons and supplies from Iran to Hezbollah through Syria. And, of course, it's a top-notch spot for surveillance, letting Israel keep an eye on Iranian and Hezbollah or any rebel activities in the region.

Israel can also respond quickly to any potential threats, and it's also a buffer zone, preventing any rebel groups from getting too close to Israel's borders. Sorted!

This is very necessary step to keep the Terrorists and rebels in check since Syrian Assad army collapsed. Can't have Terrorists operating unchecked close to the border. Don't mess with israel. This is like the only country keeping terrorists in the middle East in order.

America is in syria MAINLY for the Oil & to protect Isreal as a side hustle. Nothing concern them with some freaking 'vulnerable' minorities. At best they are just convenient chess pieces.

As president trump famously said 'We are in syria for the oil' U.S military bases are their to protect the syrian oil fields for US as well as provide coverage for 'moderate headchoppers' as an added bonus, cause why not? , it's good training ground for 'moderate rebels'

FYI @PoliticalChinex US relationship with Germany, Japan, South Korea etc is Nothing but a Master/servant relationships. All of these countries contains several U.s bases with armed U.S soldiers which the host country can't access nor control. Military power to command 'host country' soldiers is mostly firmly in the hands of the highest U.S Military commander in that country, NOT THE HOST CONTRY PRESIDENT OR TOP GENERAL.
