It was all-out madness. Nothing to do with religion. Though the antagonists were Muslims and Christians, it was ethnic-based violence. If you're in Jos North and you look like someone from jos South, even by your dressing, you're set upon. Jos north has a large Muslim population. The opposite was happening in jos south: if you look like a Muslim, even by your dressing, you're done for in that Christian- dominated area.
The Muslims were not doing it for Islam neither were the Christians doing it for Christianity. It was pure MADNESS fueled by ethnic bigotry.
Thank goodness, after all the madness of those days, there's some sense of saneness now. Though, I'm just wondering how the mainly young people who perpetrated the madness are dealing with their conscience now.
Violence of any kind involving taking of human lives is destructive to the soul. It takes a heavy toll on both the victor and vanquished alike. Take the ongoing isreal- hamas war for instance. You'd think it's all good for isreali soldiers given their upper hand in the conflict. Not necessarily, because there reports of thousands of them now battling ptsd. I read of an isreali soldier who said since his return from the war front in gaza he couldn't eat meat anymore on account of having seen mangled human bodies of both side. War is terrible for ALL. PEACE hurts nobody.
They were actually interrogating people to verify their religion before killing you,if Muslims catch you and you claim to be a Muslim they will ask you to recite Al-Fatiha,if Christians catch you and you claim to be one they will interrogate you with bible verses and other religious dogma. It was purely religious.

The only people criticizing the decorations are Fulani muslims in Jos north and elsewhere who are not indigenes of Plateau state but want to take over the state by force through violence.
Jesus will put an end to war in that land and bring Peace to Jos.

Stop saying nonsense, nothing was ethnic based. It was purely religious based. And yes, Jos north has a good Muslim population, but they can't outnumber the population of Christians in the same Jos north.

Moreover, Jos north doesn't end at Dilimi, Anguwan rogo, Bauchi road, etc, Jos north is massive, and even if you dress like a pope in areas like Apata, Busa Buji, Rukuba road, etc, which are all the major residential areas in Jos north, nobody will touch you, but try that in the Muslim dominated areas and see. I know of a Yoruba Muslim woman who was chased out of her area at Yan Tire cos she was not 'Muslim enough'.

And before you say anything, I am Jos through and through, a berom man, born and brought up, spent the first 20 plus years of my life in Jos before moving, and I still go to Jos every December, like I will go again in a few days time.
Thank tou for citing the case of the yoruba Muslim woman - that's why I said in another post that was an ethnic- based violence perpetrated on both sides by senseless youths.
Re: Christmas: Beautifully Decorated Roundabout Junctions In Jos by technatious: 1:09pm On Dec 09, 2024
While the move may not have gone down well with the people, with the heavy burden of day to day expenses upon then owing to the harsh economic realities of the recent times: the decorations and celebration mood bring, as I see it, some rays of hope from the government to her people.

That, in a short while from now, things shall indeed turn around for the better.
I think, optimism is the keyword here.

Happy Xmas in advance, great people!

They were asking people to recite verses from the Quran or Bible to identify their ethnic origin. The violence was perpetrated by senseless youth on both sides, who did not care a hoot about shedding innocent blood, which is abominable in Islam and Christianity alike.

I missed JOS . Spent the last two years of Dec in JOs.
Lodged at hotel opposite Rwang - Pam stadium , enjoyed my stay . Cool serene environment, cool weather and beautiful girls.
Ate tilapia at west of mines daily .
Enjoyed my orijin bitters at stefans at Rayfield .
Watched a live football game at Bukuru stadium and was privileged to present a sum of money to the winner .
Last year was opposite Gordon's at Zaria road .
Next time I m gonna lodge at Rayfield .

There are major needs in Nigeria, yet northern states governors are spending billions on Hajj and building of mosques

You berome people stubborn sha.... But I like that stubbornness cuz it enables you guys fight and defend your land from blood thirsty bastards.... Just wish Benue people where like that.... I nu just understand Benue despite the blood thirsty bastards been the smallest of all they still count scores with the majority
The Berom people were the very first tribe to sense what the Jihadist are trying to do in Jos, and that is why you will never find a fanatic Muslim who likes the Berom people.

They sensed the danger a long time ago, stopped selling their lands to Muslims, and stopped giving out their daughters too, plus, they were always two steps ahead of the Jihadist agenda and counters it. We were seen as a troublesome tribe for a long time, but now, everybody has seen what the berom people were against and every Plateau indigenous tribe is plying that route now. Their agenda is clear as day.

It's rare but I've seen one today again, I mean people that are after facts and say it as it is. Most men are over run by bigotry when it comes to topic like this but you said right.
I'll say this in addition that the earlier someone takes time to build themselves through education the better they're off.
Education is true liberalisation, thank you for saying this aptly.
