I don't even know why this issue is causing such an uproar. This is a family affair and should be treated as such. If Afe Babalola wants to incarcerate Dele Farotimi until the 2027 elections, e no suppose concern us. Their brother in Aso rock will call them to order when he's ready huh.
So, you be tribalist sef

Used to think you're one unbiased logical being

How do you even read news like this and still add a tribal tone to it?

Like, you arent even civilized enough to address every issue the way it is without having to put on your tribal lens

Well, we may see Peter Obi as a mediator..which is very good.
There is nothing wrong in finding out of the court settlement on issues..it's a peace initiative.

My only concern here is glare hypocrisy playing out among the so called sympathizers of Dele Farotimi....You can't be claiming Dele Farotimi has done well and he is on the side of the law on one side and also label Afe Babalola a monster at the other side....then, turn back to support a call for a peace move...since you are so sure Dele Farotimi has never committed any crime.

If he has not committed any crime, as many as labelled what happened a civil suit...then ,there is no need for any emissaries to go and beg Afe Babalola.

I know some will argue Dele Farotimi didn't send Peter Obi to beg....well, what an elder see while sitting, a young person will not see even on a ladder.

I strongly believe Peter Obi would have acted from loads of wise counsels.

It's well.
What exactly is your point?

By the next hearing date, the magistrate will be unavailable. This will be a lesson to people who blackmail at will and ask you to go to court, that they can't do that shiit to everybody. I hope VDM will learn from this that that his trainee lawyer may not save him all the time and that not all people send social media noise which is the only strength of these people in support of lies, blackmail, cyberbulling

Look at diswan😂!

So reiterating that the case be treated as a family affair without unwarranted intrusion from outsiders, has become tribalism? Head is paining you!

I thought you've been amongst the people blabbing everywhere that Peter Obi was doing "busy body" with his mediation efforts? Now I'm concurring with you and you're crying again. You're a confused clown!

To treat a lawyer in such manner for a case that is not murder , not corruption, not theft, just defamation is highly embarrassing to all those who call themselves lawyers in Nigeria including the stupid Magistrate being used by Afe Babalola. If you cannot treat your fellow colleague accused of a simple offense with some level of professional camaraderie and esprit de corp just because a bigger lawyer is involved exposes the ugly underbelly of the Nigerian judicial system. If it was not Afe Babalola, why would Dele be doing in detention by now for an offense that even police can grant bail.
I believe to answer the question you have posted, put yourself in Afe Babalola's shoes. Having done that, you can then see why Dele should be detained, and processed through the very justice system he so easily accused of malfeasance, without tangible evidence.

I hold Dele Farotimi in high regard. I see Dele as a honest person, and a right thinking human rights activist.

A human rights activist must respect the rights of other people, because a whole lot of people hold him in high esteem and probably believe what he is saying in the media, while forging his brand of activism.

The brand of activism becomes suspect, if a lawyer, who is an activist, become remanded in prison for breaking the law for defamation. That means his activism is not genuine. His activism is not sincere, because he did not research the law properly for him to realise that he did not have legal ground to stand on, in this matter with Afe Babalola. He may not have malice-afore-thought. But he has mens Rea in the broad sense of the word. This is the reason why there will be a criminal conviction. Dele has mens Rea. The book title demonstrates that.

Some people will say, Afe Babalola should pardon and let it go. That is not going to happen.

Dele should know better than defame his professional group, of which he is an active member. He will be taught a difficult lesson. They will waste his most precious asset, his time, and then he will spend a lot of his own money until he starts to be his own legal counsel. Nigerians will learn about defamation from this case.

NB: Every professional body or association around the world is like a cult group. They have priority with main objective to look after members interests, especially loyal members.

Nice one.

Someone cannot work for years, build reputation, suceed, and then a derangeeed looking man will come and defame him by writing lies in a book without any evidence because of social media clout.

Online noise, tears, wailing, and vituperation will not influence court decision. Ask Dele to show evidence now and he can be a free man.

His wet dreams is to go to jail, and Afe Babalola will ensure that.
Imagine the rat calling Obasanjo and Tinubu to a street fight. Now his village pipu has answered his call.

I've read excerpts of that crappy book the 56-year-old 'Dele Farotimi wrote for 11 years according to him, and the CRIMINALLY defamatory words and innuendoes he used against the 95-year-old legal icon, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, in that book were horrendous. NO evidence at all provided. Afe Babalola in his rebuttal clearly stated parts of the book where he was defamed along with the Supreme Court. Afe Babalola won a major case for the popular Lagos-based Eletu family over their already developed land on the Lekki Peninsula at the Supreme Court and instead of the family to pay their legal fees to Afe Babalola's Chambers, went behind Afe Babalola to do a peace deal with the Lagos State government which had acquired the family land. Pinnock Estates and other estates in that area hired lawyers who included 'Dele Farotimi and then went to court to contest an already concluded Supreme Court case. Dele was NOT even part of the original Supreme Court case, so, his allegations against Afe Babalola and the Supreme Court case which he won for the Eletu family were baseless.

I STRONGLY believe 'Dele Farotimi may have smoked "Igbo" which gave him severe mental hallucinations OR he has bipolar disorder when he wrote that book. I saw a video where he was bragging that Afe Babalola should take him to court, so, he should be left alone so that he will end up paying damages to Afe Babalola and others he may have defamed, then have his name struck off the register of lawyers for unprofessional conduct! 'Deji Adeyanju and other defamers and activists such as Omoyele, and those who operate that People Gazette online really need to be taught severe lessons of life for engaging in mind control. There's freedom of speech BUT you MUST provide evidence to back up ANY claims you make about others in the public domain. NOT doing so means you are bringing them to public ridicule and harm which is criminal!

Did he defame the judiciary or his profession by saying that Afe Babalola has corrupted the system? I have absolutely nothing against Afe Babalola SAN, all am saying is why detain Dele for an offense that a police corporal can grant bail. It goes to prove his allegations against the judiciary as true.

Anyone says another person committed a crime is the person that must prove it and not the person that is accused according to my friend that is a lawyer. So let Afe prove that he is not corrupt. Like i said, I have very deep regard for Chief Afe, but i believe he should have sued him for defamation. This criminal matter does not make sense, it exposes him more as controlling even the Magistrate in Ekiti
