The issue is how come they dont do same for criminals? I am sure if those scientists were based in Nigeria, they will be battling with PHD thesis or Bread/Pure Water/Soap making factories.

It is not always about the product, sometimes you will have to look at available market that consume your product plus most of these developed countries do have grants for research unlike here. Another thing is because of standard of living people can actually have reserve to pursue their dreams.
