North-West Progressives Appeal To Tinubu To Reconsider Danfulani's Appointment by Jatuski(op): 6:20am On Dec 12, 2024
The North-West Progressives Ambassadors (NWPA) have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the appointment of Mr Yazid Danfulani and allow him to resume in line with the earlier announcement of his appointment.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by Comrade Aminu Galadanci, the President, and Hajia Aishat Mohammed, the Secretary General of the NWPA.

The group stated that the appointment given to Danfulani was carried out in line with the President's reward strategy to give back to those who worked tirelessly for the party in the last election.

The group said. "The youths in the Northwest are appealing to the president to allow Danfulani to resume work at the office as executive secretary.

They stated that this would enable him to contribute his quota to the development of the Northwest in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

"Mr. President, like we all know, is not only desirous of providing good governance, but it is equally important that people with the capacity to stand for Mr. President as his eyes are given sensitive positions that will add value to the citizens.

It would be recalled that the President had on December 6 appointed Danfulani as the executive secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative.

But a few hours later it was also said that Tinubu had cancelled Danfulani’s earlier appointment.

The development was disclosed in a State House release by the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement noted that Danfulani’s appointment was cancelled as “there is no vacancy in the agency,” thereby returning Fatima Shinkafi as the executive secretary.

The group, however, said that the current occupant of the office had occupied the position for more than 8 years and had not added any value to the lives of people in the Northwest.

"She has not also understood the Renewed Hope Agenda policies of the current administration," the group stated.

It would also be recalled that The Arewa Youth Development Ambassadors (AYDA) has kicked against the cancellation of the appointment of Danfulani

The AYDA led by Abubakar Abubakar, said that such amounted to sabotaging the effort of those who worked relentlessly for the election of President Tinubu.

Abubakar described Danfulani, as a staunch supporter of Tinubu, adding that he was a great mobiliser who did quite a lot for the president’s campaign in the northwest and even beyond.

This whole situation feels like a classic power tussle playing out behind the scenes in Nigeria’s corridors of power. On the surface, it’s about an appointment, but beneath it, there’s a struggle between competing interests and loyalties within the president's inner circle and broader political alliances.

Danfulani’s initial appointment seems to be part of Tinubu’s reward strategy—compensating loyal supporters who worked hard during the elections. But the sudden reversal, citing no vacancy, raises eyebrows. It suggests that some powerful forces or stakeholders in the administration are pulling strings to maintain their influence, possibly protecting Fatima Shinkafi, who’s held the position for over eight years.

The NWPA and AYDA's reactions show how appointments in Nigeria often extend beyond merit to reflect broader political balancing acts. For Tinubu, this presents a tricky situation. On one hand, he risks alienating loyalists like Danfulani and the groups backing him, especially in the Northwest—a region crucial for his political base. On the other hand, rescinding the cancellation could upset other power players who are clearly invested in Shinkafi’s continued tenure.

These dynamics also reveal the fragility of alliances in Nigerian politics. Even within Tinubu's camp, factions are vying for influence, using appointments as tools to solidify power. For the presidency, these unresolved tensions could weaken cohesion and slow down governance, especially if loyalists begin feeling neglected or sidelined.

In the end, Tinubu needs to manage this carefully. If he wants to maintain control and unify his base, he must strike a balance between rewarding loyalty and addressing the grievances of key stakeholders without letting these disputes snowball into bigger political risks.

Paid northern group trying to gaslight Tinubu.
So if an olodo helps the president win elections he should be automatically given an appointment regardless of his or her capabilities to deliver? Let the most qualified be appointed.
A patriotic citizen should not be expecting favor for doing what he thinks is right for his or her country.

There was a mad man along Allen Avenue Junction that really campaigned for Tinubu with Passion. He was always wearing APC T Shirt with Tinubu picture boldly engraved. Even in the dead of the night, this mad man will be shouting APC Tinubu all over the adjoining streets. This mad man tried o and he sleeps in the open space beside that Allen Avenue Junction market, I think it's Alade Market. Tinubu and his colleagues in Aso Rock must give him a post.... probably as an AIDS to the president on Mad Man Strategy or something like that.....he works for it and deserve it after all every idiots that works for Jagaban deserve a position in the administration......

Banzas.. they want another northerner to takeover after a northerner has been there for more than 8 years.....the NNPC DG should be exclusively be a preserve for the Niger Deltans but over the years it's been one northerner or the other so a southerner should also be in charge of this agency.

It's horrible that the north is heading almost all the south's resources agencies, the npa,the NNPC,ptdf,DPR....this should end.

Meaning his appointment is not competence-based.

And, a Fulani man has issues with loyalty.

Wetin jagaban go gain, wetin the sector he was appointed the go gain!

You’re correct..

It’s not even about Tinubu per say, it’s about stake holders vs stake holders. While some are convenient with Shinkafi, some wanted her out and wanted Danladi..

Its a whole lot bro..
