What is wrong in using public transport? Some of their counterpart in EU, US, UK, and Asia use public transport and even walk to work.
nothing wrong, just that people have reduced certain lifestyle to adjust to the economic hardship

But Obi is not better.

Obi cant even stand Tinubu, let be honest.
Tinubu is only better than Obi in knowledge on how to play dirty Nigerian politics, every other thing Obi is 1000% better than him. Obi will never ever sit down and watch Nigeria collapse like he did and still doing and do nothing

It doesn't change the fact... Increase your cycle of friends, ask questions from them , it will not take you long before you find out .. even as at last year he was sleeping in his office once in a while to cut cost, he has slept at his colleague's house to cut cost..
What is the distance between the school and the lecturer's residence? I mean, how many hours drive?

Public transport overseas is adequate and enough.

In Nigeria it is inadequate.

Govt cannot afford to make it adequate and if city authority starts charging high council tax to fund good public transport as they do in saner climes, Nigerians will cry poverty

It's really telling bad on the lecturers who must be in school every day to teach. Unlike an average civil servant who may skip work days. Quality is being compromised on a high scale.

Good for them. Are lecturers and professors not the people INEC uses to rig elections? I was witness to a situation right in a federal university where returned results were manipulated in favor of a governor in the north central. University staff, academic and non academic who were returning officers were manipulating results right there that afternoon. The funny thing is that both the APC and PDP shared dollars to them at each polling center. A friend of mine was given 400 dollars.

I have no sympathy for any lecturer or university staff any more.

I am neither a supporter nor a defender of Tinubu. My signature is enough proof. But I stand by the truth. I don't accept unconfirmed rumours, even if the rumours go against someone I do not like.

Are we really sure that some lecturers sleep in their offices primarily to cut cost? Or, is this just an exaggeration? If it is a case of lecturers living outside the states of the universities and cannot afford hotels, the record should be put straight.

There is a part in the post where a professor claims that he is not aware of any of his colleagues sleeping in offices. Notice that only the ASUU chairman claims that some lecturers sleep in their offices, and he doesn't provide any evidence.

Until any lecturer comes out to say that he or she sleeps in his or her office to cut cost, I don't believe this report. The ones who trek to the schools should tell us how many minutes they trek. I'm not doubting the hardship. But I hate exaggerations. So, I want evidence.

Anyways, some professors in these institutions participate in rigging elections.
No Professor earns more than N400,000. You do the Maths yourself.

I didn't know it'll become so important but leaving Nigeria in 2001 is among the best thing that happened to me. What's more crazy here is that, I was against it. I didn't want to move because of my family and friends especially my friend Amanda.

I just hope things get better in Nigeria because Nigerians deserve the best.

From first hand observation.

I see a Prof squeeze in with another passenger in the front seat of Siena.

I've seen Adjunct Prof go to work twice in 3 months. No caps.

Most times No light. No AC. Office equipment are down, no money for repairs. I've seen a Dean's office without a functioning photocopying machine and AC.

Some lecturers rely on trucks. The fare is cheaper.

I've seen an HOD (woman) charge her students transport fare (sth like N800 per student and luggage N200) while negotiating cost of luggage differently.

I've seen a lecturer park his car (2000/2003 Ford focus), buy bike and drive at least an hour to work.

Some admin staff go to work twice a week max. If students want transcripts or any service, the student pays for their transport that day.

Sleeping in offices has been normal for months. Some sleep over at their students lodges. Some combine resources and secure an hotel room.

It's appalling.
Re: Hardship; University Lecturers Can’t Fuel Cars, Sleep In Offices To Cut by McLizbae: 8:01pm On Dec 12, 2024
Well, some do it because they work late, where I believe they will prefer to go home if they have the comfortable mean. But some do so to save cost. Man just crash if they had to be in school again tomorrow. I known this.

Taxi drop in most cities is now from N400 upwards. On average, people take 2 drops from their house to their destination, this x2/day.
