This japa thing is not the way you're seeing it,those countries are very hard too,if you can get someone who resides there that can sincerely explain to you ,you will understand.many over there are suffering and smiling but won't be sincere to tell you and you will be here thinking you don't run last.

This "Japa" thing, eh? It’s not something anyone can fully explain to another person.

People will always have opinions about the decisions you make, often forgetting that life is meant to be explored—whether in Nigeria or elsewhere.

As someone who recently relocated, I can confidently say that both Nigeria 🇳🇬 and the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 have their good, bad, and ugly sides.

For example, in my opinion, unemployment in the UK feels almost nonexistent because there’s always something to do. The same applies to Nigeria, but the key difference is that in Nigeria, salaries often aren’t enough to sustain you.

I’ve worked several low-level jobs in Nigeria—security guard, immunization staff, private school teacher, and customer service. With those jobs, the pay barely allowed me to feed comfortably. It wasn’t until I landed a data job paying about ₦800k that I started to feel like Nigeria wasn’t so bad after all. With that salary, I was living relatively well. However, I still chose to relocate because I wanted to explore international job markets, and I know I can always return to my Nigerian job if necessary.

Here’s the thing: if you’re earning well from a job or business and can comfortably afford healthcare and other essentials, there’s no need to abandon all that just to “Japa,” unless you’re sure you can secure the same level of comfort abroad. But if you’re struggling in Nigeria and have a sponsor, bro, take the chance.

The elite and politicians? They’ve got investments earning them foreign currency, so they don’t care if the naira collapses to ₦3,000 per dollar. Think about it—they have dual citizenships, foreign residency, or second passports. Trusting them to prioritize the country’s progress feels naive. Maybe I'll start trusting them when I start seeing results

Relocation isn’t about running away; it’s about seeking better opportunities for growth. And remember, nobody tied you to one spot. If it’s not working in the UK, move back to Nigeria—or vice versa, if you have the means. Keep exploring.

Life is flexible.

I understand you probably havent been out there, and just wrote those countries out of media impression.

As someone that have been to almost all the mentioned countries, its better you look for a good African country and go there than go to the UK.

If you have no skills and only depend on your muscle to make money, then you might compound your suffering. If you do muscle jobs (cleaning, dishwashing, caregiver etc), you might come to hate life.

The top feel much better than the bottom, and its better to be top in Nigeria, then bottom in oversea.
UK is one of the best countries in the world.

The new immigrants complaining are mostly students but u will never see anyone with work visa complain.

I am happy being in UK..

GIVE ME USA and UK... In terms of paper ( ie if given the passport to choose ) . I chose UK. A country where police don't carry gun. No violence. No shit and jobs left, right and center

Thunder fire you for this talk, what is the work of the government if it's not making the country to be economically stable and balanced, why must you attribute the duty of maintaining the country on the citizens, if government can't do there work properly why are they called government in the first place....
Who put the government there?? Its either you are a member of APC or PDP or LP or any other party for that matter so stop cursing and exercise some decorum.

As a Nigerian, are you saying you would do better when you get to the corridor or power? R u better than them? Is it not the same corrupt mentality the leaders have that is in you? As a Nigerian? In your own little corner, when no one is watching, have you not demonstrated corrupt tendencies?

Stay and fix your damn country and stop displaying holier than thou attitude.

If you dey any of the above countries, you don't know what God has done for you. People are suffering in Nigeria. Don't be deceived by all those guys commending this administration.. they are not based in Nigeria.

As a Nigerian, Life is already winning you by 1:0, then if you come poor, that's 2:0 by default. Imagine how many clubs fit do come back at 2:0.. it happens once in a while. There's a high possibility that Chelsea won't replicate such success till the end of this season. JAPA NOW

I will say it and keep saying it again, Most Nigerians are not Human Beings but Something Else beneath Human and Animals.

Your premise differs from mine. My point is about the country in question, not the language they speak there. If the OP have permanent residency in lets say Norway, and UK, he will achieve more in Norway than the UK.

UK is just a third world country attached to London. Outside London (which is unaffordable anyway for a starter), UK is really broke. I am referring to the UK of today, 2024, not twenty years ago.

Go to reddit and youtube and see Brits complaining bitterly, and thousands moving away, even recent immigrants.

I understand the UK is one step ahead Nigeria, but if one has to choose, and if prosperity is non-negotiable, then UK should be off the table.

If you want me to paste painful statistics about present day UK, I will. Yes, it is that bad. UK should be off the table.
The way u are capping nonsense.

How can u compare Norway to UK?

First you need to understand the language before u break a barrier.

I leave in a city close to Scotland and makes almost 1300 pounds after tax and house rent. This exclude what my wife makes.
Life is easy in United Kingdom and the language which we all speak n understand makes it easier

The number one question that should be asked is, are there jobs in Norway compared to the UK. If you use LinkedIn as your research tool, It is 80/20 result. The only country in the UK that has higher job rates than the UK is Germany & most jobs are in Berlin. Berlin is also super expensive & salaries are much higher in the UK than Germany, I can tell you for a fact.

If you cannot secure a proper job that gives you adequate income, all the statements you're making doing does not cut it.

Norway is also super cold, same as Finland. Then people will have to learn Finnish or Norwegian and Sami. They have less jobs that UK or Germany, so please what exactly does anyone gain by having access to fewer jobs.

My friends that ran to Finland have all ran back.

Also we are immigrants & not British, they are all running away to places like America for greener pastures because they have the British passport, so how does that compare to regular immigrants in the UK?!
No mind them they think its all about name etc.
United Kingdom is the king and compared to the USA all rounds.
Give me uk n Canada....i go with uk.

Until you get your Biafuro Nation, you are still a Nigerian whether you like it or not.

Fix your damn country and stop being ungrateful, Nigeria gave you life, you touched down on it soil when you came out from your mother's womb, show appreciation to Nigeria and stop cursing your own country.

The Land is extremely blessed and filled with honey, There is nothing wrong with the land because the land is blessing me and it will continue to bless me.

But you see the Habitant of the Nation and the way the Nation was designed from INCEPTION is the MAJOR PROBLEM!!!

Nigeria's problem is internal, external and goes way beyond the physical realm.

For Nigeria to have a headway, At least Two out of the Major Tribes must shove tribalism and whatever indifferences they have aside and UNITE in order to put a stop to this contraption and from the shackles of western powers.

After this process, Disintegration will follow make all tribe go their way and plan for themselves.

Mind you, The Elite, Wealthy, Rich will never bring up such plan because they are beneficiaries of the ROT. Except in some rare cases when a Messiah from the Elite rises. The Havenots, Poor, Oppressed are the ones who will/must champion this process.

See, In summary, As long as the contraption continues to remain ONE, Even for thousands of years to come. Trust me there will be never be any significant progress.

The average salary in Norway is actually higher than UK, 668,400 Norwegian Krone (47,217.49 Pound sterling) higher than UK which is 35,828 Pound sterling, but there are better jobs & work life balance in UK (For Immigrants) than Norway. Norway does not have a general minimum wage.

On Reddit people are even complaining of how hard it is to get jobs in Norway: https://www.reddit.com/r/Norway/comments/1bsa0f9/why_is_getting_even_entry_level_tech_jobs_so_hard/

I agree the people are trying, but ask yourself, how many people you know that would hit their chest and say, i want to do this particular thing for my country so that it can get better. Nigerian government is the reflection of Nigerian citizens that's the truth. We all want to japa, me inclusive. When we get there, we abide by their rules, but here, we act anyhow, untill we start doing something individually to change Nigeria without expecting anything apart from the growth of the country, Naija go still remain like this.

there is nothing the common man can do....
the government cant provide the basic amenities.....
basically Nigerians are providing everything themselves....
from light, security, water, food and shelter....
the people are trying on there own part....
the people feeding fat on public funds gets almost everything for free....
if what they want is not in Nigeria they go outside to get it.....
if public officials and thier families are ban from traveling abroad for medication they will fix the health sector....
if they are ban from using gen they would fix it
etc as it stands Nigeria cant work
everyone cries government when the reality is someway everyone has someone in the same government but still nothing. Government is you and I.

You made a very good point, I just want to let you know that going each other's way might not change anything. The elites still remains, you don't kill them off like the France revolution. Sudan split, Ethiopia also split, and nothing has changed in those places till date.

The western influence you alluded to also has little to no effect if the leaders are actually willing to work for the people.
