Should I Relocate Back To My Village Or Stay In Lagos? by Adetheyorubaboy(op): 5:39pm On Dec 14, 2024
Hello everyone,

I need advice on a decision I’m struggling to make. I’ve been living in Lagos for six years now, and I initially came here for a specific purpose—let’s call it a hustle. Over the years, this hustle has been sustaining me financially. However, I’ve recently started working online, and the income I earn online is now significantly more than what I make from the hustle.

The good thing is, both the hustle and my online work can be done from anywhere. This has got me thinking seriously about relocating because, to be honest, I don’t like Lagos. I’ve realized I’m more comfortable in quiet, peaceful environments, away from the noise, crowds, and fast-paced lifestyle of cities like Lagos or Port Harcourt. I’m naturally drawn to living in a village or a calm rural area, either in my hometown or elsewhere.

Here’s the problem: when I shared this plan with my family, particularly my elder sister and my dad, they strongly opposed it. They said I’m too young (I’m 27) to move back to the village and that it’s a waste of the opportunity I’ve created for myself in Lagos. They believe staying in Lagos will open more doors for me in the future, while moving to the village might limit my progress.

Now I’m stuck. On one hand, I feel relocating would bring me peace and happiness. On the other hand, I don’t want to disappoint my family or make a decision I might regret.

What would you do if you were in my position? Should I follow my instincts and relocate, or should I stay in Lagos as my family suggests?

Lagos Gabe you the enabling environment to learn and to grow...

Why do you want to go back to the village now Oga?

Oga, park well... Stay out there... If Lagos is too noisy, go to the neighbouring state and chase more opportunities or better still.... Stay there and expand!

A legend once said "to grow you need to leave your family"

Not village yet, you are young. Outskirts of town or neighbouring state.

If your basic needs, including safety, are more available in the village, go to the village.

If the village sustained you until you went to Lagos, what exactly do your people mean by saying that you are too young to return to the village? If the village has a spirit that kills young people, you would have been dead before the time you went to Lagos.

Why do some people act like everyone's village is a curse to the person? Your success is not dependent on whether you embrace or leave your village. Some people who were born and raised in cities live and die in poverty. Some people people grow and become wealthy in their villages. Some grow up in the village and relocate to cities before becoming rich. It is all about your preparation for opportunities and where and when you meet the opportunities.

You must not relocate to the village. You can relocate to a quiet and peaceful town like Enugu or Abj.

I am a core village person and I don't know the reason why lots of people are encouraging the dude not to go back to the village.
Most people in Lagos are live a sub-human life, waking up 4am, spending grueling hours in traffic, noise and air pollution. How do you even survive in a place like that.

Go back to the village and I can assure you will never regret the decision.

You may think you're making a rational decision but na your village people don dey call you so o.
If your major driving force is the need for peace and quiet, why not move to somewhere like Ibadan?
Even if your work is completely online, how about other stuff like internet strength and speed, laptop and phone repairs, the occasional need to pick up an online purchase at a convenient location to the seller, will you get all that in the village? If your answer is yes, then you may have no problem going to the village.

You can move to a nearby state like Ogun and live in Abeokuta. This will give you a short driving distance access to Lagos. You’ll get a bit of quiet in places like the GRA
Its also much cheaper than Lagos

You’re from which state and what’s the village like you want to move to? Does it have internet and good hospitals and an airport nearby?

Now I’m stuck. On one hand, I feel relocating would bring me peace and happiness

This here should be your top priority. Don't let anyone or anything jeopardize your happiness.

Life is per head. If moving back to the village is all you needed to be happy, DO IT.

I won’t even live in Lagos for a fee

As far as I know and can remember, Lagos have less busy areas. You can also try neighboring towns to Lagos.

You can relocate to Ifo in Ogun state which is near Lagos but very low paced and almost like a village.

You can relocate to Agbara in Ogun state which is also a quiet and low paced town close to Lagos. Agbara is also like a village with some city facilities.

You can try those Akute and environs near Redeem camp area along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, they are quiet and low paced like village, while being close to Lagos.

You can try Epe side, it's a village near Lagos.

You can also try Badagry, it's another low paced area in Lagos that is almost like your village but close to Lagos.

Whatever decision you decide to take, make sure you are close to Lagos that helped you build the hustles you said are paying you currently. Don't ever make the mistake of relocating too far from Lagos.

Because of the huge human population in Lagos, it gives more opportunities for people ready to offer legitimate services or those wanting to startup a business to sell or render a service. Whether the economy is dead or alive, so long as there is human population, they must need things to survive and continue living. This is what makes Lagos a city of opportunity for serious hustlers. Even if you decide to be selling sand in Lagos, you will definitely find people ready to buy the sand. If you decide to be selling intimacy gadgets or one funny thing, there are people in Lagos looking for that funny thing to buy lol

So don't throw away the opportunity you have in quest of self fulfillment at your young age. Think future, think beyond now. Anything can happen to those your online hustle that you think is paying well now and you are back to square one, how would you rise up if you are in your village with limited opportunities due to low population?

In summary, don't relocate back to your village, resist that dangerous call and urge.

It’s cheaper to live in the village especially of you have online hustle like freelance but ensure you have solar and inverter installed

Going back to the village at such a young age is not a good decision. I'd advice you to relocate to a quite neighborhood and continue doing what you do.

Having such Village thought at your age is already a sign of backwardness from family spirits you better start praying against it in the future.

There are lots of places close to Lagos tou can live or move to your local government headquarters (the town of your village) not your village directly.

Better start praying for the future. I'm a man of God what I see about you is terrible to behold

I am a person from a rural village, and I don't understand why many people are encouraging him not to return to the village. Most people in Lagos live challenging lives, waking up at 4 AM and spending long hours in traffic, dealing with noise and air pollution. How do you even manage to live in such an environment? Going back to the village will be a decision you won't regret.

In a nut shell, you are asking if you should live for yourself or live for others aka put your happiness first or put others happiness first

I have helped you streamlined it. This is a pretty easy decision wink

Have you read their responses which make economic sense? Since he stated online business, which Internet speed in his village surpasses what he gets while in Lagos?

Randomly, I can only see two reasons you would want to do this:
- Save a bunch of money
- Get into large-scale farming

But the first only works if you have a firm source of income as well as the resources you need to work where you're going. You're probably not gonna do the second.

My guy, lol villages are literally just for farmers. There is nothing you want to do there. If you want village girls, you can still go see them without living there.

If you want the best of both worlds, meaning low cost of living but with access to things (and less drama), then hunt around for that. You might even be able to find a place that's close enough to your village.

I understand your situation ...but consider this. You went to the city to hustle ... you found one that sustained you. Did you consider returning to the village? No. Because you remained you found another hustle ...online hustle . Would you have found this if you moved to the village? What a city gives you is exposure and connections ... a melting pot of ideas and solutions and perspectives.... you will be learning in a city ...but if you go back to the village .... you be basically stuck with what you brought. You are too young for that...unless if you intend getting into Agriculture. Whatever you are doing tonearn online today will soon no longer be able to sustain you ...then what? Spending six years in Lagos makes it difficult for you to return to the village ...and stay. City life is already in your system but you wouldn't know until you move back to the village .
