Good evening everyone. I have a spring 2025 admission, but I’m just about to get my I-20. With the situation of things pertaining to interview dates, is it still possible I’d meet up with spring intake? Or I should consider deferring? |

Please, has anyone gotten approved for an F1 visa without school funding for a master’s degree program? I know getting school funding will be helpful but I only got $3000 scholarship, which leaves my deficit at $33k. I resume in January 2025 and I am currently at the appointment pre approval stage in my visa application process. It’s late now to get admission for another school for spring semester and my department doesn’t offer graduate assistantships. I just want to know what my chances are so I can prepare accordingly. Thank you. |

Curry814:I will be honest with you, funding from school gives you some level of playground sha but people without funding still gets visa and some people with funding self get denied. So funding is good, luck can still find you without funding depends on the VO, make sure the story on how to cover your deficit is believable. I for one won’t advise anyone to enter the embassy without funding especially if it is your first attempt. Best of luck |

Hello, When can one start the visa application process for Fall 2025? Can I pick a date in February/March or do I really need to wait for 120 days before my start date? |

Hi Nairalanders, So I am a current PhD student. I had a visa interview (renewal) for 12th and was supposed to travel in to Nigeria on the 8th. The airline canceled the trip and rebooked us for 10th. Meaning we’d arrive Nigeria a day before our interview. Unfortunately, we missed that flight and we couldn’t meet the interview. We’ve called and were advised to reschedule and apply for emergency appointments. So we were able to reschedule before the interview date but only available dates were in April. We’ve applied for the emergency appointment through the portal but haven’t gotten any response since Wednesday . School resumes 19th January for spring semester and our GA appointment starts 8th January. I guess my question is, does anyone know the fastest way to get the emergency appointment expediated? How do I contact them to get this resolved asap? Has anyone been in similar situation and what did they do? We have called the embassy and even raised ticket but all we’ve been asked to do is wait. |

Hello everyone. Please I need as much help as possible. My sister got an admission for Masters for Spring 2025 and her resumption date is January 16th. She has partial funding from the school. She got an interview date for December 13th. She went for the interview but was denied. Before the transcript, I would like to note that she filled in her DS 160 that she has a sibling in the US (which is me). I’m also a permanent resident here. Also, my dad is currently visiting. So where they asked in the DS 160 that is your father in US, she put yes. So here goes her transcript as she sent it to me; F1 visa( first attempt) Visa delayed Abuja embassy COA: 28807 Deficit: 14807 13th December, 2024 VO: an Asian woman VO: Good morning pass me your documents Me: good morning ma'am, this is it ma. VO: do you have a child? Me: No, I don't have a child. VO: Are you single? Me: Yes I am single but I am(I was cut short) VO: do you have a siblings in US? Me: yes, I have a sister..... V.O: where does she stays? Me: Dallas Texas V.O: What does she do? Me my mind was not settled again, because she was not even asking any questions that have to do with my study) she works as xx in xxV.O: your dad is also living in the US? Me: Noooo, he only went for visiting........(Cut me short again) V.O: how will you be paying for your deficit?( Typing hard.....) Me: apart from the GRA I got from my department after series of 2 interviews and submission of outstanding documents (my steeze don drop here sha), my dad will be covering for my deficit,he is the..........(Naso mama cut me, as she heard my dad) V.O: sorry.... Blah blah blah Me:Thank you ma (collected my white denial paper jejeje) After the interview, someone we told said we shouldn’t have filled that she has a sibling in the US. Please what can she do better next time? |

Teensmentor:Re: Quote. The best and only avenue for you to apply for emergency appointment is through application from your portal and not by any other means not even by emailing or phone calling . Apply from your portal and attach your I 20 together with all evidences of resumption and they should grant your request. If by chance your request is not granted (which i doubt except you are not doing it the right way) you may defer your admission and let your school realise the visa application delays. |

Debbie6534:Re : Quote VO should ask you basic questions like where 're you going ? Why this program ? and your graduation plans before going into family questions. If any of your siblings lives in the US but you qualify for F1 visa your visa should be granted. Your genuine intention, finance , personal plans after graduation and ability to remain a student and graduate is the concern of the VO not your father or mother living in the US. |
Re : Quote Thank you so much Bamangajatooo. I was wondering why they would be asking such questions. ButI think she wants to establish a home tie. That’s why she asked if she has a child or husband. But how do we establish an home tie if they only ask questions on children and relationship status. What can she do better next time? |

Teensmentor:Why don't you shelve your trip and go renew your visa in Canada? |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by ibroh22(m): 8:00am On Dec 16, 2024 |
Debbie6534:Having the sister in the US shouldn’t be an issue, especially if the school is not in the same state or town, she could have just answered the question that her sister stays in so so which us different from this so so state she is going to study and won’t be depending on her during her course of study. She shouldn’t have put her father is in the US since he is just visiting and he is not staying there permanently. Since she put her dad is in US and they ask how she is covering her deficit and still mention same dad again, it can pass off as tho her dad is working in the US. This is just my personal opinion, I am not an expert. Next application, she should try to get full funding from the school, so if they ask what has changed since her last application, she can start off from a strong point and move on from there. |

Before you apply check the school requirements and you can send the admission team a msg about any concerns you have they will respond. quote author=Poormanpikin post=133296130]Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I hold a diploma in law and I want to use this result to apply to an institution in the US for a four year program, will I be accepted into year 3?
|

Did she respond to what the sister is doing in the US? Home ties include gainful employment, family, and properties (this can also be assets).

|

Based on people experience, VO most times asked applicants that has been denied what has changed in their profile..we never can tell what was the reason she was denied, best is to pray for favour and then change her dad location to Nigeria. VO might not even asked what has changed self, but it would be nice if there’s something that has changed in her profile that can be use if question like that spring up. It’s all grace and favour sometimes |
