Sometimes civil service work dey confuse me...

Looking at this practice of a governor dissolving commissions or even sacking those recruited by his predecessors on assumption of office, can one say that civil service jobs are not secure or is it just those at the top echelon of the civil service whose jobs are not secure?

Illiterate criminal. Nigerian politics is all about vendetta, revenge, bitterness, greed and nepotism.

Yes they will lose their jobs
Thanks.

That's sad. Always thought public service jobs has security, and that it's usually the erring heads or senior officials that should take blame for their errors (I mean if the senior officer erred), but knowing now that an entire commission's workforce can just lose their jobs just like that for the mistake of someone else is scary.

These are statutory bodies that a governor can only dissolve after the State House of Assembly has sat and given the nod.

Statutory agencies are not like Commisioners that a governor can sack at his beck and call. Statutory agencies have a well laid out tenure that can only be subverted by the House of Assembly.

Somebody with the requisite knowledge should help me here:

Are all the workers in those commissions going to lose their jobs?

Because with the high inflation rate in the country, this would be a terrible time for workers with families to cope without a job.
The headline of the news is what is misleading. He actually desolved the constituted management board members of the commissions. The last paragraph of the news article whick I quoted below clarifies my position:

The statement, therefore, directed all Chairmen and members of the affected Commissions to handover all Government properties in their possession to the most senior Public Officer in their Commission.

They will not all lose their job. It`s only the top officials, that is why the statement said they should handover to the most senior staff in the commission.

I read it before my comment, but since I didn't see heads of commission/s that's why I asked, and the first person to answer me told me that they all would lose their jobs. But thanks for making it simpler.

You can see from where I quoted that board members are to handover to the most senior Public Officer in their Commission.

That's the difference between public service and civil service. If the affected staff went through the Civil service it would be difficult for him to sack them because they will go back to their parent ministry. If they came in through the public service commission you can be sacked anytime . In all public service you have senior civil servants deployed to most commission. Those senior civil servants will go back to their parent ministry. Public service can be hired and fired at will compared to civil service. Same thing happened in Rivers and Ebonyi

Anyway, no one wants to work with those who may not be fully loyal. Nice move if only it will not be another opportunity to appoint stooges, sycophants and nepotistic characters.
😆🤣🤣🤣🤣

But there is nothing meaningful in that head..... Than halfbaked brain . .....if such a person can become the Governor of Edo state........

He is not sacking the entire workforce but just the board members who are political appointees

I am not surprised, most of these offices consist of Obaseki loyalists many of them "yoruba speaking".

The evidence of his good work is emerging.
Teboga road is now smooth sailing.

There are plans to do more but the House of Assembly has not given him the go-ahead to do so. Party things!

coolAre you sure it is a welcome development? Or it's the sign of nepotism in appointments has just started.

This our politics hunting opposition in public appoins, demeriting their appointments amd sacking those considered loyal to your opposition will not take us anywhere.

Rather it will always take us 10 years backward whether it's done.... Politics of "do me I do you" will no give Nigeria any form of progress.
