Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed the sum of N200,000 each to 250 elderly men and women drawn across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State.

The money and other palliatives were distributed under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady and were supervised by the Anambra State governor’s wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, at the Women Development Centre, Awka, on Wednesday.

Speaking while addressing the beneficiaries who came from the 326 wards of Anambra State, Soludo said the palliatives were provided by the First Lady to launch the second edition of the ‘Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme’ across all states of the federation.

Soludo said the exercise, themed, ‘Total wellness: Happy, healthy and prosperous lifestyle’, was designed to support the welfare of 250 elderly citizens, aged 65 and above in all 36 states of the federation annually.

She added that the scheme also covers beneficiaries from the federal capital territory and veterans from Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association.

The Anambra governor’s wife, who read Tinubu’s speech to the gathering, urged the beneficiaries to always prioritise their health and well-being by eating only natural foods and vegetables while advising them to ensure they avoid canned and processed foods for longevity.

She said, “I bring you greetings from Nigeria’s First Lady, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who this money came from and special appreciation to her. This programme is designed to support the welfare of our 250 elderly citizens annually.

“ The Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has decided to increase the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide further support to our elderly citizens during this festive season.

“A total of N1.9 billion will be disbursed across the country. The RHI coordinators in the 36 states of the federation, the FCT and DEPOWA have received N50 million each, out of which N200,000 will be distributed today to each beneficiary. In addition to this, free medical check-ups and other sundry items will be provided.

“I congratulate all our senior citizens who have been selected as beneficiaries. I urge you to remember to prioritise your health even as we all enjoy and celebrate the festive season.

“Eat well, stay hydrated, do little exercise like walking, and getting adequate rest. Spend quality time with loved ones and do what you enjoy and what makes you happy. I wish you all happy holidays and a prosperous 2025.”

Apart from the cash, the beneficiaries also received items such as wrappers, vegetable cooking oil and various health tips and wellness packages from the governor’s wife.

There is probably more than 2,000,000 elderly and they making propaganda by claiming to give pallaitive on 250 people, that means for every elderly they allegedly gave, approx 10,000 others got nothing meaning almost nothing was given.
