McMentor:
I advise us to read Taiwo Oyedele's comments on the reason why Lagos has a high figure.

It is solely because of the headquarters of some big companies are based in Lagos. The VATable services of Exonmobile, Shell and Chevron are mostly consumed in the Niger Delta while Lagos is ranked as the source without proper VAT attribution.
I have answered this before.

With the Tax Reform bill, the headquarters of every single one of those companies, without exception, is now in play to other states VAR wise.

Their government just needs to give them, and their employees, nice "sweet heart" deals which might include tax breaks.

Those states governments will have to work harder to come up with something better than Lagos state and that includes some long term post-present administration stuff. Infrastructure improvements etc.

But would states prefer the current system of lazily folding thief arms and getting handouts rather than making an effort to take a bite out of Lagos state?

Imo state figure is shocking and shameful...!

No wonder many of these parasitic states are against the Tax Reforms.

Enough of eating and reaping where y'all didn't sow or Labor.

Every state should sit up, and get to work! Find ways to attract investors and improve revenue generation.

Robbing you say when Telecoms pay only to Lagos State but it is being consumed in all states
The get other states making a play for the headquarters of the Telecomms organisation to attract the VAT.

What are they scared of, competition? Lagos seemingly isn't, why should anyone else.

If you can't work hard as a state government, you should remove yourself and let others that might or can do it. Instead of all this sitting around waiting for central government allocation.

There is no bite out of Lagos here, federal might is used to force all companies to have their headquarters in Lagos. Regional government will force all companies to have their selling point headquarters in various regions and pay tax where their products are consumed.

Say what you know...!

All these telecoms facilities in every state are not there for free!

They pay different taxes and fulfill financial obligations to host states to enable them do business.

No single top business operates freely in any state in Nigeria.

Let's stop covering the shame of these states... They are either unproductive or embezzling revenues.

Something is also fishy about kano contributing on 9 billion Inspite of its huge size when a state like oyo is doing 32 billion and smaller less industrial states are doing more numbers comparatively!

Borno, a war-torn state contributes more than all four SE states of Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi & Imo, yet some lunatics will not let anybody rest in the country, with incessant noice of their exaggerated importance!

All this attack from behind method cos of northern opposition

If you want equality come with plane hand too

Let each state decide what she wants to tax as vat and collect the vat, utilise it by herself

Remove vat from exclusive list to concurrent

They have simply made up their mind to keep dragging this nation into the dunghill of history.

No Sir.

One of things the tax reform bills seek to correct is to make the tax count for the states where the items through which the tax is generated is consumed instead of the headquarters of the paying company. If Lagos state is the headquarters of the company, then Lagos government get the tax instead of the states where the items are consumed which is unfair on other states

Don't mistake me. Lagos is on my certificate of state of origin. I'm Yoruba through and through but the truth must be told.

The bone of contention here is that MTN sales recharge card in Kano and pay the VAT to Lagos which is supposed to be paid to Kano where the vat is received. The company in Lagos will only pay their gain tax to FG and Lagos not the VAT.

About Kano, religion did not permit operations of some certain things that are accepted in Lagos and rivers. Like alcohol, gaming, hotels, event centres etc

VAT is different from revenue o. People consume MTN services in the hinterland of Nigeria but MTN’s total VAT paid is “allocated” as coming from Lagos. Same with the Banks. Let every business pay VAT where they operate from. Let’s see the difference.

All states should receive a percentage of what they remit. The person who drafted the current formula should be held arrested. If they are no longer alive, their next of kin should be arrested
Obasanjo did so much to ensure it continues that way. Tinubu saw it a long time ago that such formula will not work for a long time. If Obasanjo had allowed Tinubu's ENRON to operate way back 1999, states would have been generating, transmitting and distributing ELECTRICITY by now. Same for taxation and other aspects of leadership. Imagine ONLY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT generating and distributing monies to ALL STATES in Nigeria. If Federal government doesnt give a state money, then it means theyre doomed and will not be able to pay salaries talk less of executing capital projects.

Obasanjo seized Lagos state allocation for 22 MONTHS but Tinubu no send am.
