brain54:I believe Delta and Bayelsa State's revenue is way much more than that, but due to a lot of pilfering by revenue collectors amounts to that low returns. Na Imo State own pain me pass, a state with so much potentials all lying waste and not being utilized, just building hotels, filling stations and bars everywhere. Build something productive and reduce the unemployment rate, but no the so called leaders would rather keep the citizens impoverished and keep them as zombies for the next election and the girls as intimacy gadgets, no more. By the Grace of God with this new tax bill nothing like Civil Servant state again, everybody utilize what you have and get bumper allocation. NOTE: This tax bill will call for a lot of accountability, many companies will be forced to relocate their HQ to the actual states that they are making their money from(case in point the oil companies). States like Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom will be forced to get their seaports working then Lagos massive allocations will then drop to it's real value. Many States especially in the South East like Anambra and Imo will be forced to make their inland ports operational. This is a very good development. |

FearlessYoruba:Be objective, the guy is making sense the VAT from HQ needs to be changed, you pay VAT to the business state of Operations, not HQ in another state. |

aswani:You are still not understanding it, it doesn’t matter where the company headquarters is located, what matters here is where the produced items is consumed and that where the VAT goes. Where a company locate their headquarters or production factory doesn’t matter. The state that is hosting the company will collect yearly turnover revenue tax from the company not the VAT of items produced by the company in state A and consumed in state B. State B will be credited with the VAT. |

Elidrisy20:That is the strategy of Tinubu to straighten things. It is difficult. The northerners are the ones controlling the oil block and the receivers of the subsidies and beneficiaries of the VAT. So, things have to be straightened out. |

| Re: What Some States Contributed To The VAT Pool And What They Received - Nov 2024 by bigboa: 11:01pm On Dec 19, 2024 |
Odingo1:Very succinctly put. VAT is a consumption tax. This means it measures the economic activities reported in each state. Some states like Kano may have a higher level of commercial/economic activity but what VAT is telling us is that a large portion of that data is not being captured. The idea is simple: State governors have the responsibility to improve their states commercial and economic levels which will then boost the microeconomy (ie standard/cost of living metrics) in the states. The federal government's responsibility is to manage the macroeconomy (security, exchange rate, foreign policy) which it is already doing. For too long, the federal government has taken on the responsibilities of the states and local governments and while not being able to cater to those responsibilities adequately, the federal government continues to falter and fail while handing a free pass to the state governors who feed fat while doing nothing. |

bigboa:That is the fact, but the problem in Nigeria is that the North is afraid of doing it like that because there is high poverty rate in the North, so basing VAT on place of consumption may affect the north. How many household in the North uses phone or internet. They only listen to Radio 📻. |

Why is everyone fixated on TAX reform while ignoring resource control, which seems far fairer? Lagos retains just 17.90% of the taxes it generates, but what about Delta State, Nigeria's richest oil state—how much does it really earn from the crude oil extracted within its borders? Clearly, common sense isn't so common. #babzview |

MightySparrow:I don't understand how this VAT is collected from states. Looking at Ekiti earning more than Ogun, Osun, Ondo and even Abia state, makes me to wonder the yardstick used in measuring VAT of different states. |
