Lagos Fresh Food Agro-Hub Generates ₦‎2.495 Billion In First Year by Lanrelagboi(op): 6:46am On Dec 20, 2024
The Lagos State Government has reported that the Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub generated N2.495 billion in transactions during its first year of operation, facilitated by 348 vendors.

Ms. Abisola Olusanya, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food System, shared the figure in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

The food hub attracted 75,000 visitors who participated in trading activities during the 81 market days it held for commercial transactions.

Ms. Abisola Olusanya, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food System, highlighted that the Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub is not just a market, but a catalyst for change in food distribution management in Lagos.

By providing farmers and traders with a reliable platform to sell their produce, the hub has ensured fair pricing, reduced post-harvest losses, and created a more efficient supply chain benefiting everyone from producers to consumers.

Socio-economic growth and community empowerment
Since its establishment, the food hub has been a driving force for socio-economic growth, offering a transparent and organised market to farmers and traders.

“The hub has boosted the livelihoods of vendors and market women, improved food accessibility for Lagosians through fair and affordable pricing, created job opportunities, and contributed to the economic growth of the community,” Olusanya said.

She also emphasized that the hub’s impact extends beyond Mushin, playing a significant role in driving the state’s economic development by bridging the gap between rural producers and urban consumers

“The Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub stands as a model of innovation and sustainability, not only for Lagos but for Nigeria and Africa as a whole.”

Expanding food security projects across Lagos
She also highlighted ongoing projects under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, including the Lagos Logistics Hub in Epe and additional fresh food agro-hubs under construction at strategic locations across the state.

“These projects aim to streamline food supply chains, enhance food security, and create economic opportunities for Lagos’ growing population.”

According to Olusanya, the initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of strategic solutions in addressing systemic challenges, empowering communities, and fostering economic growth.

The commissioner praised the Sanwo-Olu-led administration for its commitment to delivering impactful projects that prioritize food security and economic empowerment for residents.

“The fresh food agro-hub is proof that innovative, community-focused initiatives can reshape economies, improve livelihoods, and create a more secure and prosperous future for everyone involved,”
she concluded.

More insights
The Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub was established in 2023 on a 6,400 square metre site in Idi-Oro, providing a structured and organised marketplace designed to reduce farmers’ reliance on middlemen.

The facility spans 3,017 square metres dedicated to parking for trailers and other vehicles, alongside central wet and dry storage areas.

The hub promotes bulk buying, enhances logistics, and ensures the delivery of fresh, affordable produce to residents.

The business of coconut is not for easting. All these women cosmetics contain coconut.
A lot of the medicines we use in the Pharmaceutical industries contain coconut oil. The coconut oil is one of the best for cooking.

Normally, if I am not a Yoruba, I will be very jealous on the positive news that is always coming from the Lagos especially. I will also want to claim it is no man's land and probably try to install my tribe man as the governor to at least slow down the pace the state is going.

On the other hand, Ogun state and other state within the southwest region should position themselves as the supply chain for Lagos market because Lagos doesn't have that land for agriculture.

Fiscal restructuring is a MUST in this country, if that will be the only achievement of the president SO BE IT!!!

(A case study of Nigeria citizens & their elected oppressors).

During the Soviet dictatorship of Joseph stalin. He was a brutal dictator with mind of his own. On one fateful day, stalin came to Politburo meeting with a live chicken. Standing in front of audience, He started to pluck the feathers of the live chicken off one by one. The chicken trembled in pain, blood tricking out of its pores. It gave out grievous cries, but stalin being a cruel dictator continued without remorse plucking the feathers out until the chicken was completely Unclad. After which, he threw the chicken on the ground. The Unclad chicken was staggering in pain. stalin goes into his pocket and from his pockets, he took out some chicken food and started to throw it at the poor & hapless creature. The poor chicken in pain started eating and stalin started walking towards his seat. As he walked away, he kept dropping some feeds on the floor & the chicken followed him and sat feeding from his feet.

Joseph stalin then turned to members of his political party leadership. He said, "This chicken represents the people". "You must disempower them, brutalise them, beat them up, starve them and then leave them". "If you do this, go into your pocket & give them peanuts when they are in that helpless and desperate situation, they will blindly follow you for the rest of their life, worshiping you". "They will think you are a hero forever. They will forget that, you're responsible for their sorrowful situation in the first place." Breath taking, isn't it ?

Now! Take a look at all the people some Nigerians are busy defending on social media. Take a look at those they call their heroes. They are the same people who plunged Nigeria into the situation she is. They are the same people who are responsible for their predicaments. Did you see the numbers of people that throng to Saraki's House during this Sallah period to go collect peanuts? People trooping to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Foundation offices to collect branded One kilo bag of Rice & Noddles. Did you see the number of people of all ages who troop out to welcome Ex- convict James Ibori to South South! Do you see the number of handle mop following obi as if he is a seat? what of the one following dino malaye?

Your guess is as good as mine. Nigerians kill those they should defend and defend those they should kill! Pass to all your contacts & let your Political & Religion Leaders read, understand & digest.

A 45-year-old resident and father of three, Mr.Fatai Lamide told PUNCH HealthWise that no building in the community has toilet facilities.

The Oyo State-born mechanic said, “We don’t have toilet in this area, including our compound. This canal that you see serves as toilet to all of us living in this area. We defecate inside nylon and throw it inside the canal.

“For people that don’t want to use nylon, they have a special bucket that they use after which they pour it inside the canal too.

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.

Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.

The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.

'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.

"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.

"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.

He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.

''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.

''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.

''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.

The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

I will never understand you guys. I'm a Yoruba I think in Yoruba before I translate to English but then I've chatted with Whites from Australia and the US and I can tell you that there's no one way of speaking or writing English. Many US citizens can't even string a sentence together. Go ask chatting boys make dem tell you.

Do you know there's British English, Canadian English, American English and Australian English?

Can you tell me with which you have corrected me?

I'm not English savvy! yes!!! but do I communicate? Yes!

Y'all should allow people express themselves on this forum. If you want to make a comment do so but don't be lurking around for bad English sentences, it makes you seem too idle.
