I often find myself puzzled by the mindset that drives some individuals to believe that taking another person's life for ritual purposes will somehow bring them wealth. As the Igbo say, ife onye metụtara, obughi nke onye ọzọ. Society has shifted, leading many to think that money is the sole goal of life. Celebrities, with their façade of a lavish lifestyle, parade flashy cars—often bought on credit—as if they were symbols of success. The poor youth, yearning to emulate these role models, often fail to realize that what these yeyebrities known for—music, acting, and the like—rarely reflects their true sources of income. Igi kan ko le da igi meji, yes, but you must not be the odd tree! To thrive and as adults, you need to filter what you consume on social media. The rule of thumb is straightforward: if it’s for the world to see, it’s often a façade. What’s done for show is merely fake love. Truly, gaskiya ba ta shafi gajere. Parents, too, have a role in this dilemma. Many pressure their children into crime, often saying, "Look at your mates!" But this has caused more harm than good. As the Igbo wisemen remind us, nwata k'ekwe ya, ma o bu na o b'ogbe, which of course agrees to the fact that a child is indeed shaped by their environment. Parents and society have failed this time. It is left for you to put an antivirus in your brain to sift out negativity, the “get rich quick anyhow anyway“ the world promotes! But I know you don't wanna do that because it looks like I am after your dreams! Am I? And what of the government? It seems focused solely on disheartening the populace. There are no jobs available, even as many are eager to work. Corrupt leaders steal billions, leaving the country in despair. One stole ₦60bn and was told to remit some few millions! It looks like billion robberies are constituted on Nigeria because nothing is actually done to these thieves!! As the Yoruba say, bí a bá fi ẹsẹ̀ kan s'áàárẹ́, ẹsẹ̀ méjì á r'ẹ́ which translates to "If one foot is in the mud, the other will follow." In Nigeria, there are no leaders of tomorrow. The people in government are not planning to leave. And even when they leave, the replacement is usually one of their many emergency next of kin. Become the leader of today and don't follow the trend! In the end, we must remember that true wealth lies not in material possessions by killing people, but in labour. |

Something needed to be done urgently The rising cases of ritual killings are deeply troubling and call for collective action from individuals, communities, and governments. Here are some strategies to address the issue: 1. Strengthening Law Enforcement Enhance security measures: Increase police presence in areas prone to ritual killings. Special task forces: Establish units dedicated to investigating ritual-related crimes. Swift justice: Prosecute perpetrators promptly to deter others. 2. Public Awareness Campaigns Education: Raise awareness about the dangers and myths surrounding rituals through media, schools, and community programs. Engage influencers: Use religious, traditional, and community leaders to debunk myths and promote positive cultural values. 3. Address Root Causes Poverty alleviation: Many people turn to rituals out of desperation for wealth or success. Addressing unemployment and poverty can reduce this desperation. Mental health support: Offer counseling for individuals tempted by harmful beliefs or practices. 4. Collaboration with Religious and Traditional Institutions Engage faith leaders: Partner with churches, mosques, and temples to promote ethical teachings. Traditional leaders: Work with local chiefs and elders to discourage harmful practices within cultural contexts. 5. Legislation and Policy Reform Stronger laws: Enact and enforce stricter laws against ritual killings and related activities. Regulate spiritual practices: Monitor and regulate activities of individuals or groups promoting harmful beliefs. 6. Community Vigilance Neighborhood watch groups: Encourage communities to report suspicious activities. Empowerment programs: Train citizens to identify and counter harmful practices. 7. Promote Positive Cultural Values Highlight success stories: Share stories of people who succeeded through legitimate means. Youth engagement: Provide platforms for young people to express themselves and focus on productive activities. 8. Leveraging Technology Hotlines and apps: Establish anonymous platforms for reporting ritual-related activities. Surveillance: Use drones, cameras, and other technologies in crime-prone areas. Addressing ritual killings requires a holistic approach that combines prevention, enforcement, and re-education. Everyone has a role to play in eradicating this menace. |

The way they keep quiet no matter how gorry the story of the decapitation is, should worry other Nigerians. No outrage. No serious condemnation. You will never read a fellow up story as to the punishment metted out to arrested culprits. Even when Soka forest was discovered with all the astonishing things found there, it was the same standard reaction; feign ignorance, stay mute and move on to other stories real quick! That means only one thing; the immediate society where these atrocities happen, accepts this behaviour as a standard, and the top echelon of the society are neck deep involved. It is really scary. |

There should be law across southwest geopolitical zone that sentence anyone found culpable of ritual killings to death Without this, there's nothing going to happen. This is my watch ward if I found myself in any position that will make it happen. |

LegendHero, how far? There's a pandemic of ritual killings and human body parts sales in Yorubaland. It is done by Yoruba sons and daughters on other Yorubas. We aren't even talking about Skull mining here. At this rate, Yoruba population will reduce 500,000 in the next 20years if nothing is done to stop it. You'll agree with me that a state of emergency ought to be declared across the entire Yorubaland immediately. Almost all your alfas have been implicated in the abomination. I advice you to champion your 'ronu' cause to save Yorubaland from self implosion. Just for your knowledge, this publication has been saved for future purpose. |

Go home and ask your parents to tell you the history of Okotako hotel in Imo State. Ask your uncles about the okija shrine in Ihiala LGA Anambra where hundreds of dead bodies was discovered and close to hundreds (60-80) were headless (mutilate). Ask your aunty to tell you about governor Theodore Orji if Abia who was caught almost naked on tape performing ritual at okija shrine. That of IPOB Terrorists cannibalism is not far for u to remember, I'm reminding you. After that, come back here and delete the nonsense you've written here Malroux: |
