You see those states you feel are useless because of the low figures, they aren't useless but heavily looted. |

FearlessYoruba: aswani:Not necessarily. A lot of the VAT accruing to Lagos is not supposed to be paid to Lagos. VAT is a consumption tax and should accrue to locations where goods and services are consumed. Lagos collects VAT for consumptions in almost all other states for products and services whose headquarters are located in Lagos which inflates the figures you see on that report. That's one of the things the new tax reform bills aim to correct. |

Maxymilliano:Do the industries sell their products in the producing states? It's sellout to other states so those states are not the sole generators of the revenue, vat is paid by consumers therefore it should be shared according to population not where the company/industry is located |

Urgent1Million:I don't believe this is true about VAT being currently paid where the headquarters are located. I have a feeling someone falsely claimed it is and that person has caused the confusion with people believing them. Some states are still collecting too much just for existing, and they are feeding off those that are doing a lot to attract business and people. |

Maxymilliano:Remove MTN's monthly 200bn VAT to Lagos, then you will see Lagos only contributed 42bn. Only Lagos residents dey use MTN? |

This got to show that the north isn't parasitic as portrayed by the south. Why were they the loudest voices against the Tax bill if they can generate this when the bill hasn't been implemented yet? Kano, Kaduna and co will definitely give Lagos/Rivers a run when the bill comes to stay. |

EnglandAmaka:The point is too many state gorvenors are settling for central allocation and this Tax Reform Bill will ensure they get less and work hard if they want more. |

FearlessYoruba:have you and your people forgotten when you were shouting made in China up and down, what about today with the help of their government look at what China has turned out to be, you and your people are now running to China for every product. Without Nigeria as a country the East would be the Greatest country in Africa where you and your people will be clamouring for visa to come to. |

kaltonga:My problem is the headquarters rule. Vat should be collected at point of sale not at the headquarters. That means that one state will be at advantage. More over the refund as done in developed country goes back to companies not state. A lot of things are wrong with our system. |

Gboom:I am a Senior Tax Manager, an Accountant and a Financial Reporter. I can see your IQ is so low that you can’t even see beyond what you copied and pasted. In saner climes like UK for example, there is re-distribution of income. The government pays her citizens in form of benefits aside the fact they work and earn. That is why they leave their jobs, go on vacation and come back or find somewhere else to work. They also receive benefits if they are not working while they file application at job centers. In a nutshell, the taxes paid by high income earners are the money distributed to other low income earners in from of benefits. In Australia, the Government will break your taxes down for you and tell what they spent the money on. Are they not human beings in those countries ? You stupidly can not allow you to reason. Idiot! |
