I don't know if I'm the only one seeing this. Over the last two months there's been a surge in adverts on Facebook and just anywhere ads can be placed, seeking for LinkedIn accounts to rent. Is it safe? Could this be another scam in the making? And considering the recent arrest of over 700 people in Lagos, could there be any link to it? This rise in the rental of accounts doesn't look entirely innocent, what are your thoughts on this? Have you rented? What have you noticed so far?

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional networking platform, has seen a concerning trend on the rise: the rental of LinkedIn accounts. This practice involves individuals leasing their LinkedIn profiles to third parties, often for a fee. While it may seem harmless at first glance, this trend poses significant risks to both individual users and the integrity of the platform as a whole. Here are some reasons why we should be worried: 1. Security Risks: Renting out accounts can lead to unauthorized access to personal and professional information. This not only compromises the account owner's privacy but also puts their network at risk. 2. Misinformation: Third parties may use rented accounts to spread misinformation or engage in fraudulent activities, damaging the credibility of the account holder and potentially harming others in their network. 3. Violation of Terms of Service: Account rental is a clear violation of LinkedIn's terms of service. Users found participating in this practice risk having their accounts permanently suspended, which can have long-term professional repercussions. 4. Damage to Professional Reputation: If the rented account is used unethically, it can tarnish the professional reputation of the original account holder. Employers and colleagues may lose trust in their professional integrity. 5. Impact on LinkedIn’s Credibility: The widespread practice of account rentals can undermine the trust and authenticity that LinkedIn has built over the years. It can lead to a decrease in user engagement and confidence in the platform. What Can Be Done? To mitigate these risks, LinkedIn users should: Be Vigilant: Regularly monitor account activity and report any suspicious behavior. Protect Personal Information: Avoid sharing login credentials and personal information with others. Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with LinkedIn's policies and guidelines to ensure compliance. Encourage Ethical Use: Promote the ethical use of LinkedIn within your professional network and discourage account rentals. . |

Does it cost money to open LinkedIn? Why do they resort to buying instead of opening what is entirely free? You have your answer. You're welcome |

My sister also forwarded this to me, I told her my reputation matters more than the payment. I have over 2k followers with potential people also in my network. I can't trade it for $32 monthly that'll likely burst like a balloon soon and result in my account being permanently rusticated.

I have not rented and am not planning to do so. After the stress of id verification to access my LinkedIn account, it will be difficult for me now to play games with my LinkedIn account. I cannot rent it. |

It’s worrisome, when people start selling fake LinkedIn accounts, it can only be for fraud. And I sense impersonation and fake job postings |
