Hello everyone, please I need advice on a decision I need to make. I'm a fresh grad and I got an IT internship role in Abuja. I'm currently in Niger State but no jobs here at all. I've tried out a few businesses and all failed. The internship comes with a monthly salary of 100k, and I must be around Lugbe, so I need to rent a single room...My question is, considering the current cost of living in Abuja, will 100k be enough at all? Also, I will be going for NYSC in the next 2-3 months, which means my allawee will be an addition. I'm currently a cloud/software engineering student. My plan is to be able to work remotely one day, but I need something to sustain me for now. I need realistic advice. Thanks NB: I know my standard of living is a factor here. I don't party or follow trends. I'm not materialistic. I wear what I have, I eat protein when I see and I only make friends of knowledge. |

Is the company aware of your location and that you have to relocate? This isnt just about the job anymore, your place of resident is now involved, do you wanna stay in Abija after tNYSC should the compnay retain u or if they don't?. If yes, u can either let the company know your relocation challenges and see if they can help in anyway or you rebargain, ask if you could work remotely for the service period, even if they have to cut the pay to 80k or 70k, what you need mostly now is the experience. You can even tell them you plan to relocate to Abuja after the service. But if you dont plan to make Abuja your base, then think carefully. Still bargain for the remote working and if they dont agree, i wouldn't advise it. You have to keep upskilling and stay relevant, the right work will come eventually. Cos realistically, 100k plus ur allawee in an expensive environment like ABJ wont suffice, especially in your first year. #mytake 1 Like |
