There is no need to scare away well meaning Nigerians from using the free train during this yuletide with this statement.
If President Tinubu didn't provide the opportunity of free trains during this festive season. They will still lament that government did nothing to cushion the effect of the harsh economy during this yuletide.

I do agree with Senator on this point. The Abuja to Kaduna train is a lifeline to most commuters that are unwilling to ply the journey by road.

You don’t want to share a train with thugs and riffraffs, compromising the safety you initially thought you were gonna get by leaving the roads to kidnappers.

I also welcome President Tinubu’s kind gesture of trying to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians.

The solution to this in the future is to provide a first class train that isn’t free to common man. These trains will leave at certain times of the Yuletide duration and passengers will have to pay premium. They get nice drinks, food, entertainment, etc. If you like Senator, you don’t want to board with riffraffs, you will pay for first class train. If you are struggling, you board the free trains.

Some of you just like to yarn dust. Free trains trips was announced, what are you blaming the administration for?

I'm currently at the Rigasa Train Station trying to to get to Abuja on the next (free) train. Inasmuch as I appreciate what Government is trying to do, I don't think the risk and the confusion I'm witnessing here are worth it.

Firstly, a racket was created. One cannot buy tickets via any one the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) platforms - because they are "free". Shey? On getting to the station, I discovered some people have tickets and they were allowed in first. Some unscrupulous NRC staff hijacked all the available tickets and sell them to highest bidders to guarantee a seat on the (free) train.

Secondly, some people that have no business travelling are here causing confusion. It's a madhouse here! 😓💔💔💔

Thirdly, there were some in-fights between those who didn't have tickets but sat on the seats of those who had tickets. If free rides are declared, the procedure for boarding should be standardized. Give everyone a free ticket or remove the need for tickets altogether - a "free seating" condition.

Fourthly, the train was overcrowded. Some people had to stand in the aisles for the entire trip - including some people who had tickets.

Fifthly, there was no proper information or sensitization of the public. Even on the booking platforms of the NRC, no mention was made of the "free" train ride or the duration. After days of frustration for not being able to book, someone casually mentioned to me that all rides are free. I had to wait till the date of my trip, got to the train station and encountered premium confusion - story for another day.

I recommend that in the future, FGN/NRC should give a substantial discount instead of declaring free rides outrightly. This would ensure some sanity in the process and reduce/eliminate the risks.
