Chickens eat a lot of things and they will adapt to life on a free range in your compound. Buy cockerels and raise them in your compound. Cockerels are hardy and they will survive if you know what to put in their water to drink e.g cut lemons into two and squeeze the lemons or limes into their water once a week. Or you can throw scent leaves in their water. Same for ducks and local turkeys.

For feed, look for pap sellers and buy pap shaft from them at a cheap price. Go to big open markets in the state you live in and make enquiries. You will be told where to get materials to make your own feed cheaply. Utilize all the food waste in your kitchen and give it to the chickens and ducks. Get food waste from parties and hotels and take out the bones and harmful items. Hotel food waste are good for home bred chickens. Just think. Make sure you construct a cage the chickens can return to at night after roaming your compound which should have gates. Cheers.

That means 40 chickens can fetch one N1m and 400 chickens N10m revenue.

Nigerians want farmers to become like wretched office workers. They embrace office work of N50k-N100k and think the world will wait for them.

Am I lifestock farmer, nd I knw d cost raising chicken. A bag of feed is 19,300 currently. U can't raise a bird for 8 weeks nd sell at a commanding price. U raise 3-4 months minimum. Nw do d calculations urself. Dat does nt include mortalities we incurred bfor raising d birds to maturity.

50 pieces of day old chicks can be reduce to 40,35,30 or even 25 at Maturity. Depending on immunity of d birds, environment etc.

Pls, dnt say wat u dnt knw.

Redman44:
For 2025 Christmas, just raise chickens, turkeys and ducks yourself to avoid stories. And you don't have to give them expensive feeds. You can give them food scraps, scraps from parties ( rice, eba etc ), corn shafts, and your own compounded feed. Let them roam in your compound and feed on grubs in the soil etc. You will spend less money this way. Cheers.

Where you source the day old chick from is very important. Some of these sellers of chicks do not clean the cages very well. The cages are full of poo from infected chickens . They also do not give them medication against coccidiosis etc. There are local herbs and medications that can save the lives of these chicks from premature death. Read widely and ask elders questions. Scent leaves are good pain killers and infection preventers. Drop palm oil in the water of the birds once in a while. Palm oil also dries up boils on the chickens eyes and head. All these solutions are known by locals we refer to as illetrates.

You are saying nonsense.

As someone who was into livestock business. Do you know what it takes to raise these animals from juvenile till they are matured.

Losses are mostly incurred when these animals are young and they are still not spared when they are fully grown because there might be an outbreak of different Viruses.

The Experiences i had when i was a still a Novice in livestock business was heart-wrenching.

Feeding, Vaccines & Multivitamins prices are over the Roof. You think say na play. I'm sure most of you do not know Livestock consumes Raw Noodles, Oils and Other Healthy Fatty Foods as well.

I give kudos to those who are still doing the business.

Blame the EVIL you have on the Throne of your Nation not innocent farmers.

Broilers are not suitable for this kind of breeding. Cockerels are better.

Tinubu is the cx. When the head is confused, the appendages takes advantage of it to do whatever pleases them. Things weren't this bad during Buhari's regime cos he was a little bit strict

The first section of your post fails to put into consideration that, you'll have to deduct money for chicken feed, security and treatments... So the capital and profit isn't much of a huge margin.

The second section is thought provoking

Exactly my style. I do stock 50 pieces by 2nd week of December every year and just be feeding them as normal local chickens. Anytime I feel like using it, I kill and eat but will reserve the ones for Xmas and New year. So, all year round, there is enough chicken in my house.
No stories!
