If you have ever been on a social work to a prison, ask any prisoner how they got there.

None of them is guilty...

Now you believe Kemi Badenoch when she said the police and justice system in Nigeria are rotten. Imagine a judge who is meant to be a custodian of justice shamefully acting as a puppet of corruption.
Shut up. Incidences like this do happen in US, UK and the West. People have been wrongly imprisoned only to be found not guilty many years after. So shut up!

Shut up...in as much as we sympathize with you, don't bring some stupid lies here . You and one other went to steal in the house of a police man, you guys went with a sword and a local made gun...but you guys were only able to steal Chicken from his poultry...you guys were arrested and taking to court...as far the law is concerned, the judgment was in line only that the judgement was too extreme. Considering the fact that you were a teenager then, the judge should have given a lighter punishment...

The gun was for what ?
Stories like this are new to you, I guess. And you never said anything concerning the person or modus operandi of the trial judge...or maybe you didn't read the entire story well. My dear friend and co-compatriot, just know that you are not immune to false accusations and police brutality. It happens in this country. Pray. Even criminals get away with crimes they were caught committing courtesy of police. Once they have been given money, they can even accuse an innocent person of crimes that have not been committed yet, and 'evidence' will be readily available.

He said, “The DPO told me that one of the children confessed to stealing two broilers and some crates of eggs. I met the broilers and the eggs at the station. The children were eight in number. He told me the children said I was their gang leader, which I denied.

Either of these is what will likely played out and thorough investigation supposed to have revealed the truth

1. The guy committed the robbery but not armed as they make it looked but added it in order to crucified him.

2. He was innocent of that particular scenario but of questionable character. (In the report he said the complaint was his uncle and promised to withdraw the case after the family meeting was held because of that issue, but still went ahead to testify against him)

The judge sentenced him to death not just because of robbery charges but because of the narrative that he was armed with cutlass and gun, meanwhile that was what they presented before the judge.

But in all honesty we don’t really what played out because we were not there and there is no meaningful report on quality investigations for us to know what really played for us to have fair judgment.

We should try to be objective and not to be emotional; most especially if comes to criminal cases.

We’ve seen a situation where by people of younger age actually engaged in criminal activities, fully armed and even killed people in the process. What did law says if someone actually committed criminal activities (That is why we can not just crucify the judge) unless if we are so sure that they lied against the guy.

But in all thank God for people’s outcry and the Governor intervention to save his life.

If truly he committed the crime, he must have learned his lesson and here opportunity to turn a new chapter

But if they lied against him, well thank God he didn’t go with the storm, do who do that will sure face the consequences sooner or later.

In all, let live a modest lifestyle and we the parents should be intentional about training our children and guide them right, we pray God guide each and everyone of us right and may we not be a victim.
God bless you for this write up, all in all we thank God he was free because it's better for a criminal to escape judgment than for an innocent person being judged wrongfully.

The owner of the poultry farm was his UNCLE. While he is an only son.
The uncle initially said he didn't steal but turned to testify against his nephew. What sentence was then given to the other children that were also caught? Was he used as the scapegoat?
Connect the dots.

Thank you. The kids mentioned his name, his own uncle testified against him in the court. To me, he wasn't innocent of the crime but just that may be he didn't deserve death sentence as a minor

Police once arrested me on my street just around 9pm, telling me to write in my statement I was part of a gang that killed two officers somewhere around Akure in previous years to my arrest, but I declined to put a pen on the note. They also sought for certain amount of money or otherwise take a picture of me with dane guns and cutlasses then hand me over to the anti robbery squad for transfer to the police headquarters. Luckily I was able to gain my freedom after 3days.
If you are a police person reading this….. Just know from u and unto ur future generation is cursed and won’t know peace.

This could be a case of extended family rivalry. The poultry where the chicken was said to be stolen belongs to the convict uncle.
The uncle testified against him despite family intervention.

Anyone that really wants to get to the root of this matter should secretly interview some people in that community to what the relationship between the father and the Uncle was.

Another confusing part of the story is where the said the same chicken belonged to a police officer . Or was it a different incident?
Multiple robberies/armed robberies, poor investigation. That's why they lumped up everything

What was the name of dele farotimi's book again?
I know a police officer who was in charge of a particular guard room, he said there was a night all the suspects escaped from the cell, in the morning his DPO ordered them to go and arrest people everywhere to replace the escaped suspects. I was shocked.

According to the DPO, their oga is coming that day from state HQ and meeting an empty cell signifies that the station is not active. Omo I shock again.

He committed the crime but that's not even half enough reason to sentence him to 3years talk more issuing death penalty.

So, the victim was groomed to become a thief? You're still young and inexperienced. In today's Nigeria, just pray you don’t find yourself in an unforeseen situation—you’ll realize the police often don’t care whether you’re innocent or not.

Does possessing or using gun and Cutlass to steal leads to death sentence?

He wasn't accused of muder or serious rubbery.

If this case can lead to death sentence then death sentence should have been a common hear.

Even if he's guilty of all we just read here, it is still not worth a death sentence. I mean it's just fowl, eggs and oil. It's not 10billion and he didn't kill anybody, be was 17

Nigerian Policemen are crime lord. I remembered being molested beating blue and black when I was 21 for doing nothing. The saw me wearing a romanian necklace not even original gold given to me by mum because the chain was creating rashes on her neck being a fair person. They concluded immediately that I am a Yahoo boy beating me blue and black. When I can not even afford #2000 which was almost my weekly feeding allowance at the University. Everytime, I cursed them and the reason most of their children are either hoodlums, prostitute or rogues. Awon oloriburuku.

Sentencing for armed robbery is not about the rich or poor getting sentenced differently. The only issue here as opined by Falana is the age of the teenager at the time when the crime was committed.

Exactly. When Kemi Badenoch was narrating her experience with the Nigerian police and vowed to avoid any institution with the name Nigeria attached to it, those in denial started attacking her.
How can a judge sentence a minor to death for stealing chicken and eggs? The police accused him of being the leader of an armed robbery group without any evidence. Where are other members of the group?

I really don't know who's teaching police how to concoct stories against innocent people. The system should find away of punishing any officer doing so if we're really serious in this country. God help the poor boy.
