I am very impressed with what had gone down in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. During my visit to this spot in 1974, it was a swamp. |

Cool pictures... Those who don't know how boggy and swampy Yenagoa is will keep lamenting on how the state is not using its resources very well. To construct a kilometer of road in Bayelsa will be more than double the amount it could be used to construct same kilometer of road in Delta or Lagos, or even triple the amount for same project in the North. Those that gave eponyms to states and regions in Nigeria seemed to have failed simple geography because Bayelsa state that has more creeks, distributries and lagoons than Delta State should have been the main Delta State ...Just like Cross River state that is in the East of Eastern region is called South South, Benue state that is on the same latitude Ogun state is state to be in the North 😂... Bayelsa is one of the richest states in Nigeria yet one of the poorest. With eight local governments yet only two and half are accessible by road despite the billions received monthly, the government could not link all the local governments by road. Purewater is very expensive in Bayelsa, it's even sold for over 2,500 per bag in some communities despite being surrounded by water yet people don't have good water to drink. Rich with oil and great waterways yet the people are so poor that I don't know who is poorer between the northerners and Bayelsans. Aside from Yenagua that is half developed, every other parts of the state is either a slum or shanties. You will see an expensive house owned by either politicians or oyel guys built in the committee of rickety and dilapidated houses. They collect allocations monthly, share among the politicians and civil servants. Some local government staff only come to the secretariat at the end of the month to collect salary and withdraw back to their houses only to reappear the following month to collect their own share of the national cake. Even Jonathan as a president for six years had no positive impact on the state, even his home community is not linked by road. Youths have been made to believe that it is a waste of time to do legitimate hustle, schooling is a scam to most of them. Everyone want to have illegal refinery to chop oyel money. All their governors are much richer than the state. God please help Bayelsa. |

OduduwaNow:Calm down bro, I worked in yenagoa bayelsa, there's nothing special about it. Even as it's the state capital, it's not up to standard at all. Bad roads littered the whole place, lounges and bars everywhere and the indigenes flock from one new bar to another, so much so that the famed asters is being turned to psych ward as people now frequent Hamilton and de moon as new meat. Name one better facility in that place asides Eruani's Azikel. Truth is all the governors, both past and present are unrepentant thieves who would rather spend all their time in Abuja than come home but would refuse to take their hands off the state Treasury pot (mild exception of GEJ). Lawrence will probably emerge as the next governor and hopefully he brings a much needed change to the terrible style of governance in the state |

OduduwaNow:. Most of what he said is on point, the only off point things there is pure water bag @ 2,500 and GEJ's house not being linked by road, even though the road is not standard sha |
