Do you see the way the press heckles even an American President in a press briefing right in the White House? Do you see the way the British PM has to be fast with his facts and on his toes every wednesday in parliament?

But here, we serve a royal and imperial president, before whom jouranlists must sit tight and behave.
That's because they actually practice true democracy where the press are not suppressed.

Where institutions are totally unshackled and autonomous from the government.

If you expecting any miracle from this president, You better give up. The difference between him and buhari is that the current president is too proud & full of him self with his failure. I can't imagine him stating he can score himself that means he don't not care about what you guys think or feel.

casualobserver:
all you have displayed here is the arrogance of the 10%. The 90% don"t watch these debates. These debates are for the educated English speaking mostly city dwelling wannabees to make themselves feel important and who think Nigeria is America so we must do everything they do. Clearly you still haven"t understood the message. Educated people in their arrogance still dont understand that when it comes to elections, we are not important! Election is a numbers game, people who watch debates dont have the numbers to be important and even their numbers are always split so as a demographic, the effect is Zero! If there are 1.5M debate watching viewers, .5m will vote APC, come what may, .5 million will vote PDP come what may and .5m will vote LP. You effort is better spent on the block votes who do not waiver and vote as a block. For example the ibo vote for Obi and the Northern APC votes for Tinubu. 300K Ekiti rural block APC votes are more valuable than the 1.5m TV debate audience in the last example. You will share the votes of the debate audience and not gain any advantage over your opponent while the EKiti votes will put you 300K ahead. So as a presidential candidate i will attend a debate 1) if the demographic is sympathetic towards me 2) i need their votes. Conversely I will avoid it if 1) they are hostile and 2) they dont affect the outcome.

it is normal for a presidential candidate (or any candidate) to target those whose votes will make him win and avoid the hostiles who were never going to vote for him. it is a f0ol who targets 10% as the expense of the 90%. It is also a fool who goes into a hostile environment for votes he does not need. There is nothing to be gained!!! whether he debated or not, you were never going to vote for him, you only wanted an opportunity to mock him and he denied you because he is smarter than your ancestors..

Both Trump and Harris avoided debates or interviews they viewed would not help their cause.
I agree with the context of your analysis but disagree with your last line.
Trump did debate twice with cnn and abc anchoring. These are leftist media that he detests.
Harris had a sit down with Bret Baiaer of Fox news
She also did a podcast with Call Her Daddy
It's because of the deeply divisive and primordial nature of our politics that makes your analysis hold
If campaigning was solely based on issues, your theory will be trash

I only watched it when I realised there was a mix of private sector journalists present. The total result was a carefully calibrated session in which soft ball questions were asked timidly and tremulously. All of the major burning issues were studiously avoided. No one could dare ask him for instance if the N15 Trillion Lagos Calabar Road Project went through any prior appropriation and if that is not illegal. No one could ask if it went through procurement processes. No one could ask his relationship with the contractor Chagouri. In a real democratic society, no one will let the president rest on this issue alone. But here, there is the silence of the grave yard on it. Something that is manifestly impeachable.

No one could drill him on the effect of subsidy removal at the same time as devaluation of the naira. No one could pointedly speak to the price of rice jumping from under 10k to almost 100k and ask if that is humane. Abati faintly tried by mentioning the cry of "ebinpawa" but that was all, and it was almost in passing.

No one could challenge him on the purchase of a new jet at this time. No one could ask him about the "palliatives" given to the NASS and the N160 million SUVs they all got.

No one could ask him why prices of PMS should go up two-three weeks after a national protest regarding same.

Too many questions to ask.

And can't use this smartness to fix the country? I mean death coming from stampede from food sharing is high evidence of hunger in the land, stop, it's high time he fix the country rather than using the smartness to win election through bribery and corruption
