32 Passengers, Including Girl, 11, Survive Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crash

Aktau, Kazakhstan Plane Crash: Among the 32 who survived the initial crash, five, including a 11-year-old boy and a 16-year-old teenager, suffered serious injuries.

New Delhi: Thirty-two people survived the initial impact of a plane crash in Kazakhstan's Aqtau city Wednesday afternoon. Twenty-two, including a 11-year-old girl and a 16-year-old teen, were hospitalised.

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergencies said there were at least 30 confirmed deaths. The plane - an Azerbaijan Airlines jet carrying 62 passengers and five crew - was flying from Baku to Russia's Grozny.

Fog at the destination caused it to be re-routed to Aqtau, which is around 1,800 km away. However, as the plane approached Aqtau International Airport an (as yet) unspecified crisis triggered an emergency landing request. Tragically the aircraft, an Embraer ERJ-190, never made it that far.

Initial reports suggest the plane was hit by a flock of birds, causing a possible steering malfunction and/or damaging one engine. The pilots tried to regain speed and altitude but the controls failed.

The Kazakh Transport Ministry said 37 of the plane's passengers were from Azerbaijan, six were from Kazakhstan, three were from Kyrgyzstan, and 16 were from Russia.

A video shared by Kazakh's ORDA news agency showed some survivors being helped out from under the wreckage; one shot showed an elderly man stumbling away with blood on his head, while another showed a young woman in a white coat wandering around the wreckage in apparent shock.

In the same video a young boy - his jacket stained with blood and dirt - is helped by an emergency services personnel. Meanwhile, in the distance the other half of the plane can be seen, still burning

Sad. Just a reminder that life is a gift. Also another reminder why I never sit near the emergency exit despite it having more leg room. Once something happens to the engines, those passengers are toast. I also don't like seating at the front of the plane, I mean I can't even afford it most times but besides that, if a plane collides with a mountain, you are toast. You have a higher chance of surviving a plane crash if you are seated at the back of the plane. Why do you think that's where the crew sleeps? May God continue to guide and protect us from death.

The plane crash land and not like it fell from the sky. So its very possible to survive from a crash landing. And the major cause of casualties is usually from fire and burnt. Those at the back will have a lucky chance while those at the front are usually the casualties.

One of the greatest survivals of the century.

I was almost moved to tears few minutes ago while reading through Facebook as they were all praying before the plane crashed

And seeing people walking out alive from the crashed plane has given me hope that indeed their prayers will answered even though not all of them will survive

All these theories go out of the windows during air mishap.

Don’t you see that 99% of air crash had no survivors?

What happened in this particular scenario was a rare
exception ,
