On my way to nsukka, on the 15th of December, 2024, I got this message a couple of times, though I was averaging 100mph and there was a heavy stop and go movements. Whenever I slow down for couple of minutes, the message will go. I reached out to kingreign and he suggested that I do a drain and refill of the transmission fluid.

Re: Life And Times Of My 2016 Lexus Rx350 by Port443(op): 1:22pm On Dec 27, 2024
On the 20th od December 2024, I got someone that sent me original toyota WS transmission fluid for 75k, I drained about 2.9 quartz and refilled about 3.5 quartz. The fluid was really dirty. To test it, I stressed the ride from nsukka to Benin today and I didn't get any message from the transmission and it selects perfectly. So I guess issue resolved

This video helped us greatly in setting the accurate transmission fluid level as any mistake in fluid level could be fatal to this delicate transmission.

I let the car sleep in the mechanic overnight, then drained the fluid at room temperature, after refilling with the whole 4 liters can, we started the vehicle, allowed the transmission temperature to heat up to about 35°C then we opened the drain level screw to allow the excess fluid to drain according to the above video. No issues so far.

Yeah that sounds like the Toyota’s overflow transmission, I still prefer the dipstick type transmission at least I can check the level and accurately gauge it, because any small error with getting the accurate temperature to gauge this one, can be a big wahala

Very correct, there is a temperature range for gauging the oil level, set the oil level when the fluid is too cold and you have excess fluid in the system when it gets hot, then set the fluid level when it is too hot and ou have low fluid in the system, both extremes spells doom for the transmission. Lexus said that the oil is lifetime grin grin grin i will service the transmission again at 90k miles

Yeah, it’s better to change the transmission oil religiously than being sorry, nice work on the ride though.

Lexus recommends tranny fluid replacement at 30,000 miles with the WS fluid. 90k miles is a long time. It might take you the next 6 -7 years to attain 90k miles.

Furthermore, it's a waste of money to replace your engine oil every 3 months, except you are using conventional engine oil. I think your vehicle recommended OCI is between 7,500 -10,000 miles/1 year or whichever comes first. However, this recommendation is for synthetic oil.

Also note that your vehicle is equipped with oil minder light that illuminates upon attaining the required Oil Change Interval (OCI).

We are still saying the same thing, my car's current mileage is 68k, 90k miles is addition of about 22k miles to the current mileage, so it is still in order. The oil change every 3 months is due to the fact that I can't proe that the oil in the market is original. So it is better to be safe than sorry

Thanks man. A lot of factors are acting against motoring in Nigeria, and those factors are highly increasing by the day. These factors like theft, bad roads, fake products, etc. I saw them coming and when you are caught in the crossfire, it's either you manage the car like that, or you fix it, and I prefer the later. This period is a bit different because I have been moving interstate lately, when I settle in abuja, the car will rest.

All issues fixed now though, 110k spent successfully shocked shocked

No need to import the oil as the original stuff is in Lagos. I can confirm this because they import directly from the US and you can check them out. And yes, there’s a way to verify fake oil and it’s very simple. Same for the filter and other liquids including coolant, trans and brake fluids.
As for the oil change interval, 3 months is ridiculous for an adnvaced full synthetic with Base3 oil like Mobil1, Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline etc especially with an extended performance oil filter. You can do 5k miles or 6months whichever comes first. I’m also in love with my cars and do my oil change myself. Congrats on your sweet ride, and please toss in an injector cleaner like Techron at every oil change to keep things running smoothly.

I appreciate your input, but you didn't say how to identify the fake or original product 100%. Kindly drop the tips, I will appreciate it. Also note that even imported ones can be fake, they sell fake ones over there, in fact they have more fakes over there than here.

it's actually very much possible if the road is free and clear.
You don't even need to be over speed.
Maintaining a stable 60-80kmh will do it

lol I get you. But I did, I left abuja couple of minutes past 6am, got to Otukpo by 10am and got to enugu (nsukka) by 12pm, that's 6 hours, I only averaged 150kmph. Even with the transmission temp high message I got on the way which usually made me to slow down below 120kmph, I still go there on time. We later found out that the transmission issue was due to the upgraded front bumper which had no breathing space for the transmission cooler radiator, I have forced open a breathing space in the front bumper now grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
