My mechanic did some engine repair.

He changed valves, bearing, rings and top gasket.

He disconnected a cable from the thermostat so my fan runs immediately I start the engine, and stops about 3 mins after I stop my engine. He told me that this is essential for the valves to settle. And as well to avoid overheating. He said after 3days drive, I should come so he connects it back.


I’m not comfortable with this. I do not even understand why it has to be so. I’m thinking the engine, temperature and cooling system cannot work optimally with this. I want to connect back the wire (he showed me). But I need advice from an experienced person.


Pls help assist with an advise sirs.

The problem is with the thermostat it's either it malfunctioning! Or the engine is overheating! I'll advise u visit an electrician to check the thermostat and also check if the engine is overheating!

Did the mechanic also replace the fan with a new one

Why did you change gasket? Was it ss a result of overheating? If yes what causes the overheating? Is it as a result of leaks or the themselves or the fun is not working well?

If the cause is unknown what he did was right for the now. Also always check the water level regular. You have to first understand what cause the overheating before retuning it back to the default settings.

Afterall he asked you to come back. Just drive it for the time being and go back to him

The same thing happens when you turn off the engine, the fan blows a little longer before it stops. It’s absolutely normal too.

It’s the same with Audi and BMW

Your mechanic is right.

Check your thermostat and the fan relay. He even disconnected the thermostat cable? Most of these mechanics are something else.

Connect it back to the thermostat, your fan will start working only when the engine is hot
