Is It Ok To Mix Two Different Brands Of Transmission Fluid? by Zico777(op):
Merry Christmas!
I experienced hose burst.

On a Sunday afternoon while I was driving, I just experienced my car was revving with power in the engine.

Fast forward I discovered transmission fluid has splashed everywhere in the engine bay.

We called a mechanic who got us transmission fluid, it was refilled and we left the place.

In less than 3 weeks same thing happened again.

This time it happened few metres to my estate, I called the mechanic that normally fixes my car he got me another transmission fluid.

Don't forget the 1st I bought was still remaining in the container so he added it to the new one.

Is it ok to do this?

Pls what could be the reason for the hose pipe to keep bursting?
I have experienced it twice?

It depends on the type of car.
For some cars, their transmission may be strong enough to withstand certain conditions, others may pack up or require to drain everything and refill.
However, you need to know the root cause of the issue.
What's causing the hose to burst?

Is not good at all.

As a matter of fact, you may not notice anything wrong with the transmission immediately, so try use the one specified by the manufacturer and possibly flush the one in the system.

Moreover, u will need to rectify permanently the cause for your splashing fluid. If it is rubber hose rupturing, get a good one or better still use steel pipe for it

What's causing the hose to burst?
It's actually a 2009 toyota corolla sport.
The mechanic said it's the filter that is blocked with dirt thereby not making the fluid to flow properly.
He has cleaned it with petrol according to him and has also changed the hose.
He promised I won't experience such again.

The mech is supposed to change the filter but since he has thoroughly washed it, well it should be fine.
However, the proper transmission fluid should be used just to avoid stories that touch....that transmission is expensive ooo.

Thanks for your input Boss!
Yes the recommended fluid is
Toyota genuine ATF Type T- IV.
I will tell him to drain out the one there and get the T - IV. It's around 35k.

Merry Christmas to you too! Sorry to hear you're dealing with this frustrating issue — twice in three weeks is definitely not normal and points to an underlying problem that needs to be addressed.
Regarding mixing the old and new transmission fluid: Generally, yes, it's okay to mix transmission fluids of the same type and specification. If both fluids are the correct ATF for your car (same brand isn't critical, but same spec is), you should be fine. However, if you're constantly refilling due to leaks, you're just throwing money away until you fix the root cause.
Why the hose keeps bursting — possible causes:

Excessive transmission pressure — This is the most likely culprit. Could be caused by:

Clogged transmission filter or fluid passages
Faulty pressure regulator valve
Transmission overheating

Wrong or degraded hoses — If the mechanic replaced it with a low-quality or incorrect hose that can't handle the pressure and heat, it'll keep failing
Hose routing/installation issue — If the hose is rubbing against something hot (like the exhaust) or is kinked/bent incorrectly, it can weaken and burst
Transmission running too hot — Check if your transmission cooler is working properly

What you need to do:

Get a proper diagnosis from a transmission specialist (not just a general mechanic)
Have them check transmission pressure and temperature
Inspect the entire cooling system for the transmission
Use OEM or high-quality replacement hoses rated for transmission pressure and heat

Don't just keep refilling — you need to find out why the pressure is building up enough to burst hoses. This could lead to more serious transmission damage if left unchecked.
Stay safe and get it properly checked!

Thanks a lot Chief!
The issue has long been resolved.
I bought the original Atf, had the filter replaced and also changed the hose.

Don't try it unless you want to end up in the mechanic workshop very soon. Always use manufacturer recommended transmission fluids.
