His logon access to the banking infrastructure could have been hijacked, but his bank account through a webapp was definitely not hacked.

"Hacked" is just like the go-to word on any cybersecurity issue, but not every cybersecurity exploit is a hack. He could have been tricked for the malicious actor to gain control of his device/auth devices and spoofed his password or something, but definitely wasn't a hack on his bank account, but perhaps, hack on other stuff.

The money won't come out, he knows Nigerians are very emotional unintelligent people so he will work on the emotions, next thing you will get from his herds of sheep followers is after all how many politicians have been caught for steaing Public funds and that way the money is lost forever lol, fear all this content creators cum social media activists

U will know it is technically not possible without his programmer’s hand in it,
He has the SHA2 secrete KEY(both public live secrete keys) for authentication and authorization.
More so, there must be a transaction processing cap.
And transaction limits.
that amount is hug to go through without checks, and it’s also traceable.
He can follow the transaction trails using all the successful transaction session ID’s
There must be a check mechanism for most top tire
Aggregate Service Providers over multiple transactions.
So it’s technically not possible,

That's not even possible, cause that'd mean the hacker hacked the bank targeting his account, and that'd be a bank vulnerability issue, not his website.

If money was stolen from him indeed, his password was stolen, maybe in a hack and his auth device/token device, etc. was taken control of or plainly stolen.

VDM may be right that they moved that money away from his account, but i can bet with anything that its not through his hacked website. That is why you know the people you are giving such details for a project to. And you must sign NDA to secure all the information you release to the person to work with. This software engineer is very right also. But am sure VDM is ignorant of how the money was actually moved. So both VDM and the Software engineer are correct in some way.

I like VDM but this case is completely false. No website even keeps customer funds, every transaction is handled by a third-party payment processor.
He could've said someone gained access to his account and moved funds, not that his website was hacked and money stolen.

Nobody stores money on any website. Customer's deposits are warehoused in current or savings accounts within the banking system.

NGO accounts are corporate accounts. You need either a hardware token or soft token to transact on corporate accounts.

So first of all... What was hacked? NGO website or Bank account...

If its NGO website like he claimed... It's a lie!

If it's the NGO's corporate account.. Then he has to explain how the hackers got the OTP to transfer dujds out of the account

I'm not against or with anyone, as a tech-savy person myself I have questions for him... But that doesn't rule out the hack isn't impossible.

The question is "Was it the bank or the website" if it's the website, then it's 100% questionable because the website has nothing to do with the money. The website is just like the screen/monitor displaying the account information, while the bank is the hard drive.

If there was hacking, it means the hackers hacked into his phone, that's the only reasonable explanation.

Okay I didn't get the full gist. So an account was linked to a website? I'm guessing its sort of like a fund me account? To raise money for a purpose right? Even at that... maybe there might be a chance of getting in through the backdoor if the website was truly hacked and the account is something like I asked just maybe the theft can be possible but they will require multiple verifications for that sort of set up.. His website might have been hacked but the account didn't lose anything VDM wan use this one take collect periodt

It’s not possible and I will explain.

Banks have their core banking applications, example is finnacle. The banks now build different API that interact with the core banking application. There is an API that is responsible for transfer, and there are business rules that need to be adhered to inside the code, including set limit in the app setting.

Now, before the code gets to production, the devops engineeer will be involved and for any deployment into the production, it has to be authorised.

So, are you saying someone changed the business rules in the code , make a push into production environments himself (remember software engineers do not have credentials to the pilot and production environment). Even if that happens, which is nearly impossible because it means the entire IT team is compromised, the engineer knows that the person that pushed the code into production environment can easily be known on cloud platform where the repo resides, like Azure.

It’s not as easy as people make hacking sounds in banking.

Inside job? U think bank officers are that stupid? to assist with doing that and leave digital footprints because there's no way they won't be found out by forensics. Bank officials dey steal daily but not getting involved in moving such huge amounts and risk getting nabbed. It's easier to steal 50kobo from 500k accounts every Friday and u won't risk shii but get rich than to move such an amount without raising a flag on that account for naija?
