This is not the time to relax or underestimate the opposition. The team must stay focused and give their best to avoid a repeat of the past disappointment against Ghana. The stakes are high, and the country is counting on them to deliver,” Olopade said.

The first leg of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier ended in a goalless draw in Ghana, leaving everything to play for in the return leg in Uyo. The winner of the match will secure a ticket to the 8th African Nations Championship.

The last Jollof Derby 2024

Jollof derby is the moniker given to any encounter between the national football teams of Nigeria and Ghana. The derby takes its name from the nations' long-standing rivalry over who makes the best Jollof rice.
The rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria extends beyond the realm of sports and has a deep-rooted history. The divide extends beyond just football and encompasses aspects of culture, economy, and social status in West Africa.

Debates have arisen regarding the origins and influences of music, the supreme culinary delight (such as Jollof rice), and occasionally, the most robust economic system. Due to their shared colonial histories, there are natural areas of cultural overlap between these two nations

CHAN 2024Q: We’re in Uyo to beat Home Eagles – Ghana coach, Dramani

Black Galaxies of Ghana head coach, Didi Dramani is optimistic his side will beat perennial rivals, Nigeria to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) ticket.

Dramani’s were held to a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Accra last weekend.

Both teams will clash in the reverse fixture at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday (today).

The Black Galaxies dominated the game but failed to convert their chances.

The gaffer said his team will take their game to another level and hopefully return home with a win.

”We created far more chances and were unlucky not to score. No need crying over spilt milk,” he told a press conference in Uyo.

“Tomorrow is an opportunity to get the goals and qualify for the CHAN. It is not going to be easy as there is never any clash between Nigeria and Ghana that can be easy.

“The Super Eagles team is a good one and we have to take our game to another level. We will play an attacking game.”

Super Eagles B seek first CHAN ticket in six years

It’s been six years since Nigeria last qualified for the African Nations Championship tournament and a new array of home-based stars will hope to end the fruitless run when they take on arch-rivals Ghana in the second leg of the qualifier for the 2024 tournament on Saturday (today) in Uyo, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The eighth CHAN tournament will be hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, from February 1-28, 2025 and Nigeria and Ghana are still locked in a delicately poised contest for one of the tickets.

Both countries played out a goalless draw in the first leg of the encounter in Accra last Sunday, setting the tone for a fight to finish at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium today.

Despite securing a draw in the first leg in Accra, not being able to score an away goal puts the Super Eagles B in a delicate position against their opponents, as they must avoid a score draw and beat their opponents to advance to the tournament for the first time since 2018.

The rivalry between both countries have also been heightened leading up to previous editions of the CHAN tournament as Ghana have twice stopped Nigeria from qualifying in 2008 and 2022.

Remo Stars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede is the stand-in head coach of the team and has been working with his Rangers counterpart Fidelis Ilechukwu to prepare the 23 stars from the Nigeria Premier Football League for the encounter.

We’ve carefully analysed Ghana’s strengths and found that they rely heavily on history. We’ve done everything possible to ensure history doesn’t repeat itself this time. Whatever Ghanaian ‘curse’ exists must be broken tomorrow; our goal is to qualify for CHAN,” Ogunmodede declared.

And the time is now

This has been a very ruthless and efficient performance by the home based eagles. 3:0 up inside 25mins. Ghana don't know what's hit them.

I dare say these home based Eagles have, so far, played a more cohesive and watchable football than our foreign based super stars.

Kudos to the home-based S/Eagles. 👍

But it's quite unfortunate that most of us can not name a single player in the team, but can name several players in Arsenal/Chelsea/Man Utd.
