Nay. Corporate social responsibility is designed to give back to the community, not double as a marketing campaign. Building a roundabout is great, but when it’s covered in logos and colours, it feels more like advertising than helping. Imagine if that effort went into something impactful, like education or healthcare.
Nope. Corporate Social Responsibility IS NOT to give back to the society. Please don’t quite what you read on Wiki here o.

Go and read about CSR. or what is best called Sustainability Reporting oe ESG Reporting.

What they make you and I believe as CSR in Nigeria is not CSR.

CSR has to do with how companies must behave responsibly by following ethics of corporate governance and follow acceptable sustainability norms (social responsibility) in other not to harm their environment and stakeholders.

CSR includes responsibilities you have put upon yourself as required by those recognized Code of Ethics in your industry which you have agreed or have committed to doing it the way the Codes want you to do and report it. They are likes standards bro follow.

This responsibility is what is audited at the end of the year. E.g. if you or the Code says you won’t emit certain harmful contents in the environment where you operate and you agree to it, it becomes part of your social responsibilities which would be expected of you to conform with and it would be audited at the end of the year. You must also prepare reports to show whether or not you conformed with it.

Also if you are computed to employing certain gender into your company, you will be audited for this.

There are over 10 categories of ESG/CSR (if it has not been more than that) and under those categories, you have over 400 ‘responsibilities’ expected of a corporate organization.

These responsibilities are what you are to abide by and report on them every year. You can ever find painting of roundabout in those responsibilities.

Sinking boreholes or constructing police posts or painting one roundabout is never part of CSR but just a Father Christmas way.

If you check all ESG reports of responsible companies, who follow those sustainability ethics, you won’t find all those rûbbish we do in Nigeria there.

Please purge yourself of that notion and when you get to the midst of learned people outside shores of Nigeria, don’t give such examples.
This is part of what we were made to realize at our business schools that we attended abroad. We Africans goofed a lot on this.

Thank God; no external auditor signs such report. But in abroad, your CSR/ESG report is audited and signed.

God would bless you, go for proper MBA or MSc in Management at better BUSINESS SCHOOL abroad and you will see one of the reasons why Nigeria and Africa are still backward.

Not sure of the message that you are trying to convey but I don't need to go to a business school to understand the meaning of CSR. A quick search on google or these days AI is sufficient. I suggest you do the same. Cheers

As part of their corporate social responsibility, Zentih bank has designed the popular Ahmadu bello way round about in Jos. What do you think guys? The shopping plaza in front of the roundabout you're seeing is owned by Rochas Okorocha
