What do you mean "downgrade"?? The only position higher than that of a Governor is the President. Even senators and Ministers resign to contest governorship, talkless of a mere appointee serving at the pleasure of the president.
We're talking a whole governor with a mandate.

I prefer Ambode, but Tinubu will never want Ambode to do remaining 4 years in government

They should consider Ambode, who was a great performer and he was still loyal to the party even when he was denied deservedly second term. He didn't listen to the bitter people, who think everything is fighting. Anyway you can't compare a sound chartered accountant.

Ambode was brought in by a structure and he wasn't sensible enough to destroy or overwhelm the structure when he was showing it a lack of regard, of course the structure fought back and ensured he lasted one term.

There is a lot more to Nigerian politics and state gorvenance than what you see with your eyes.

Nigerians are the biggest political illiterates, especially Southern Nigerians.

the man is arguably the best governor Lagos has had since 1999, he performed excellently well. I like him

In fact, Gbaja is the right candidate for the governorship position in Lagos state .. because he has worked with Jagaban and also understudied some of the tactics and strategies of Yoruba politics through him and he has the leadership capacity to continue from where Sanwoolu stopped. If Gbaja happens to the governor of Lagos state during 2023, Tinubu could never lose Lagos state ....Sanwoolu is a lightweight politician ....who is riding on the wings of Tinubu Political structures....in Lagos state .....
And the better part of Gbaja for me is that he is not married to any Ibo lady, unlike the Seyi Tinubu whose wife is an Ibo lady ......we the Yoruba conservatives are saying no to a candidate who is married to a non-Yoruba lady
