Methinks it's inappropriate to term this as Zakat because we don't seem to see same at the homes of leaders of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, et Al.

It's kinda impoverishing the people, "weaponising" poverty, shooting it at the innocent citizens, they then hv no other option dan to go to the shooter for succour.

Remember what Stalin Josef of old Soviet Union had said about plucking the features of hen to bleeding point, then throw grains at them, they still go to the person plucking their feathers to eat some grains/corns...

Broda Yekini is not moved by poverty of the masses. If he was, flyovers, dormant highways or useless airports wont be his way of utilizing painfully accrued public funds.

I swear. There are people with that mindset, and there is very little you can do about it. I run a small charity foundation, and we help widows and single mothers. You can't keep helping same person over and over, because there are many people to help. But what I have noticed is that, some people just have that mentality that someone must always give them money and alms, even though they can work to get themselves out of whatever situation they are in. Any small problem they have, that can be easily solved by them will be ignored. Instead, they will wait till they see you again, to ask you to help them out of the problem.

Once you give them money once, or help them out of a problem once, they will turn you to their mini god, and always want you to keep giving them money forever

The critic has probably never given out a million naira in his life but is disgusted at someone giving out billions of naira over the years. As they say, talk is cheap. i was reading and hoping for solutions and better, practicable ways of giving but zero, only loser wailings all through.

it is an islamic thing.

I see you for the hypocrite that you are, after castigating him for mentioning Muslims you still went ahead and said your father pays those that comes to collect sallah money, the last time I checked sallah is a Muslim thing and have everything to do with religion.
It is Muslim when it is sallah and somehow it is still Muslim when it is Christmas? The joke is on you.

I said area boys, and not poor people. They only demanded settlement as per it was a Muslim festival. On Christmas, I am sure they go to the houses of their Christian godfathers. It has nothing to do with religion.

Don't pretend that this 'religion' of giving is not a core tent of Islam.

Who are the majority of beggars and why?
You would have been correct if you called it a party thing. It is just his supporters showing up for "end of the year" money. Many politicians do the same.

Even many of us who are not politicians have family and friends who ring us up during Christmas, new year, and sallah to ask for funds. It is normal and has nothing to do with religion.

Nine years after his empty barrel korofo criticism, is our country better? Is poverty better or worse?

Emergingnation:
Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

Zakat is a mandatory donation of a portion of a Muslim's wealth to the poor and needy, and is one of the five pillars of Islam. It's what we generally call charity and can be done in different ways, it has been done for centuries and millenials. You can't claim one is more original than the other because of method. People line up/queue to collect freebies all over the world, under whatever name. In more organised(or if you feel better using developed) countries, they may do better organisation and accountability. Hopefully, we can get there with time. But don't be under any illusion tjat poor people and people who come for freebies will finish. It has nothing to do with APC or Tinubu or Nigeria or black people, it is global. In the countries that you seem to suck up to, it is criminal to even beg. You will be fined or even jailed for begging or giving to beggars. They have their own system (organised) of doing it. So different strokes, different laws, different populations, demographics, etc. One size doesn't fit all in generosity. The positives like Mr. President said, was that there should be organisation, no greed. It shouldn't lead to other negatives like stealing or like we saw recently stampede.

but how come Saudi Arabia, the cradle of Islam punishes begging?
The Anti-Begging Law imposes strict penalties on individuals who engage in professional begging, manage a network of beggars, or incite or assist others in begging by any means. The penalties include imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to SAR50,000 for individual beggars, or both.

Anti-Begging Law in Saudi Arabia - Saudipedia

Saudi Arabia is not against begging they are just against professional begging unlike in Nigeria and Africa here, Saudi Arabia or any Islamic country for that matter can't go against begging because it is part Islam and according to Muslims it is one arm of Islam.

unlike islam and Muslims, Christianity don't encourage begging. Those people going to tinubu house to beg are doing it as part of Islamic tradition.

In some part of Lagos you will see the same so called area boys, Muslim area boys stopping motorists and motorcyclists collecting money from them for celebration they know nothing about. Begging has become a tradition to Muslims that is why even the so called rich Muslims do ass-licking to whole new level.

It's really an eyesore only a sadist will continue with this pattern for decades without thinking of how to permanently economically empower these people to enable them feed themselves.

As a Muslim, Tinubu believes that is part his zakat.

Alms giving has become part of our society especially when it involves our people from the North.

Even if he organizes them, they will still find a way to circumvent the motive, I believe he is used to them hanging around for a day or two after when they all disappear to reappear when it’s time to converge again🤣

No matter what you give those guys they will come back to the street
Then why not empower them with economic skills with some of the trillions he has looted over the years?

That your low brainwidth cannot decipher that the writer has no business with the posting of this article here is a reminder of why APC can NEVER get the important things right.

the difference is that you can see someone who really don't have asking for assistance while the professional ones depends on it for livelihood.

The highlighted shows that Saudi Arabia is against professional begging and not begging. In the past during Islamic pilgrimage muslim beggars from all over the middle East will assemble in Saudi Arabia begging people that came for pilgrimage and that is why such laws was enacted and not because Saudi Arabia is against begging.
