An analysis of NIN registration data

By zone

Northwest 26,674,015
Southwest 23,711,984
North central 15,714,408
Northeast 13,434,947
South south 11,202,106
South east 8,580,610.

The details by states is in the link below the article.

The data by states indicates that Lagos has the highest population in the country and the population of the rest of the southwest is around 130 percent of Lagos while the Southeast is around over eighty percent of Lagos. Approximately.

The registration statistics also shows that the North is substantially more populated than the south.

However, another data that can be useful is BVN registration by states. Data like these are more reliable than the population census.

Lagos for decades now have continued to lead in population despite being smallest by landmass and the only thing they are doing different from others is generate revenue and make the government a big spender and big employer of labor in the local economy.

SE have the highest number of it's people living outside their region than any other region in Nigeria the reason we have huge population in every 36 states plus Abuja.

Without a proper census, we can't really assume that SE has more people in other zones. In US, UK and Canada that have proper census, Yoruba have by far more people and I am sure it is the same in places like Ghana and Cote d'ivoire. Then why not kano, Kaduna and etc?. I hope that very soon Nigeria breaks up so that data collated can be more reliable. If there is nothing to gain then there will be less incentive to tamper with census figures. In Ilesa here where I stay, I can't say there are more Igbos than Hausa unless there is census. However in our village of Ere Ijesa near Ilesa there are by far more Hausas than Igbos because they are involved in dry season farming with water pumps on the bank of the river. The three major ethnic groups in the country have large populations in all the zones and the smaller ones too have and I don't really agree that Igbo will have the highest
