Differences I Noticed Between Lagos And Anambra Lifestyles (Opinion) by bigpicture001(op): 2:13pm On Jan 02, 2025
Having lived all my young to mid adult life in Lagos and then being transferred by my firm to it's Anambra branch , I have now lived here for over two years... These are the differences in life style I noticed

1. Business are late to open in the morning in Anambra compared to Lagos

2. There very few or non existent road side mechanics, most mechanics are in a street inside a compound and fenced unlike Lagos

3. There is still high sense of morality and believe in God in this part of Nigeria by majority of of the people bar the student areas where culturi and believes are imported from various part of Nigeria unlike Lagos

4. There is low level of northern population throughout the state unlike Lagos

5. Most nysc corpers are southwestern and igbos

6. Inside the public transport a new entrant greets the old sittight ones... Unlike Lagos

7. In Anambra, keke driver or bike rider would give u the money to go look for change in cases of no change btw him and customer while he waits for ur return , reverse is the case in Lagos

8. In Anambra , both driver and persongers will reject money to the floor in cases of incorrect disputed price of fare... All allowing ur conscience judge u... In Lagos it results to fight...

9. In Anambra, house rents are very high just like Lagos.. but transport is cheap

10. In Anambra there is a few major fuel marketers mostly filled with unknown names

11. U hardly see anyone criticize a preist of a catholic or Anglican church...

12. In Anambra, student decision of department to follow in senior secondary Begins from SS2 rather than in SS1 in Lagos

13. The senior secondary skls in Anambra are divided to just science or art, while in Lagos it is science, commercial and art.

14. Girls in Anambra are strongly money incited...they judge u by how much u show off..maybe same with Lagos sha

15. Banks are the highest paying private jobs in Anambra unlike Lagos where unknown companies pay huge surprise wages.

16. In Anambra the predominant jobs of the yorubas is tailoring, they are better trusted by the clients than indigenous tailors...

Interesting to read the cultural dynamics of both environments.

Number 1 is correct. Sometimes, i used to wonder if their morning starts by 11am
Number 16 is quite true too

Just read through. You couldnt have said it better.

As for the population of Northerners in Anambra, I guess it says more about the region than the Northerners themselves. Aside Deltans(linked by state boundaries), its very very very hard to see non-Igbos in Anambra(excluding Onitsha). You could just walk into anywhere and speak igbo and most times, 100% of those there are Igbos

Why compare them tho?

Anambra has more tribal thugs, Lagos has more political thugs.
Anambra girls are beautiful, Lagos girls are classy.

Isn’t it the Same thing everywhere in Nigeria, even in Almighty Lagos you can speak English in some streets in Mushin,Ikorodu,Fadeyi e.t.c and Many people there can not reply you back in English

Lol, of course it's entirely weird to have more northerners in Lagos than in Anambra. BTW, how many northerners live in Ibadan compared to Lagos?

The Characteristics you mentioned for Anambra is same for majority of the South East,I am from Anambra and I schooled in Owerri, noticed it’s all the same thing

In Anambra, drivers stop anyhow, someone can drop at this gate and the next person will drop at the next gate, not far from each other “Ka opuo”

In Anambra, you can’t “Lap” like they do in Lagos where a grown man can lap another man except the person you are lapping is a little child

And except it’s a rush hour, people don’t run to enter bus,the bus will wait for you
Re: Differences I Noticed Between Lagos And Anambra Lifestyles (Opinion) by Noneroone(m):
it's good to say the area you are in Anambra so you don't sound ridiculous when you make certain claims. Someone who lives in Onitsha will find it ridiculous when you say they don't open for business on time.

Yoruba tailors are BETTER trusted by the clients? of course that is very untrue. That arguably use to be the case in the late 90s and early 2000s owing to fashion trends when kaftan used to be the dominant native wear. fashion/designers have tripled since 2010. While it may be the main occupation of Yorubas in Anambra, they are still a small minority compared to the so called indigenes (a lot of them are from Enugu, Ebonyi etc)
I think building sites also have significant number of Yorubas and Togolese.

Transport in Anambra can't be called cheap o except that of Lagos is up the roofs.
Re: Differences I Noticed Between Lagos And Anambra Lifestyles (Opinion) by G0Oodharddick:
Inasmuch as the above write up are entirely true, the language barrier is same.

In Lagos, you can't speak English because you'll get a response in Yoruba. It is logical to find northerners more in Lagos than in anambra. The SE is predominantly Igbo speaking region. Walk up to anyone and speak Igbo and you'll get a response back in igbo.

1. Initially onitsha has lots of agberos but today Lagos is leading in terms of agberos!
2. In SE as a whole, Catholic and Anglican seems to be the dominate churches there and hence must not be criticize, unlike in Lagos or SW.
3. In anambra, most people are not interested in white collar jobs, or getting government jobs they prefer doing business instead unlike in Lagos
4. In anambra and SE generally, their women are highly Manipulative and strictly in the lookout for money, they are extremely money conscious 💰 they call their SIMP men "odogwu" , while in Lagos and SW as a whole, their women are also in the lookout for money too, but too dull to manipulate a man.

Anambra is just 1 state, not a region. It is easy to see a northerner in Abia.

Re: Differences I Noticed Between Lagos And Anambra Lifestyles (Opinion) by Offpoint1:
The number 1 is applicable to whole state in Nigeria, Lagos is the only state you can buy all food items in the market by 4am. And workers are already on the road to work by 5am.

Before Lagos, I left home for work by 8:45 and got to work in 10 minutes. Lagos is different ball game, even though the work distance is the same, it took me 2 hours (that's if I leave home before 6am)

Lagos conductor made me lapped a lady with a voluminous azz and I alighted with the hardest erection known to mankind. It wasn't my fault, but biology and whatever brand of perfume she wore. I knew she felt it, I wish we have the abilities to control our serpent salutation, but this guy is triggered by visuals and touches.

I like how the comment section is without any tribal fights.

Another difference about Lagos and Anambra is a bout night life.
There's still activities going on in Lagos till midnight, but in Anambra, no night activities. By 8pm in Anambra, people are already in their houses with their gates locked with different padlocks.
You hardly see people moving around in onitsha by 8pm.

In summary...!

Life is on a faster lane in Lagos than practically anywhere else in the country.

If you have lived and worked in the heart of Lagos, then relocate to Abuja, Imo, Delta, Kano, etc, you will be shocked at how even your heart rate slows down... A huge burden is practically lifted off your shoulders.

Even your aging process slows down remarkably.

Many Lagosians don't realize it, but they aren't truly LIVING... Just existing! Some have never breathed clean air in years.

Comparing city with metropolitan.

Just like comparing Tottenham with Barcelona.

Your number 9 is a big fat lie. Anambra has the cheapest house rent in urban areas in the whole federation. I mean quality house not face me and I face you. May be you didn't go through Onitsha .

If I am blessed with weath and success I'll relocate back to Anambra without a second thought.

If you want to live peacefully in Anambra without getting into trouble just learn the art of minding your business, don't be a glutton and working hard. Thats the secret.
