For the bible, of course men wrote it via inspiration from God.Archaeologists have further validated and shown proofs of biblical characters and acts that took place in biblical times.
Then coming to smoking and drinking, most who smoke and drink have been known to do questionable acts that can't be morally justified. Smoke or cigar is an abuse of the purpose of creation of the herbs .

Disobedience to the law is the definition of a sin. Abel or whatever he calls himself should allow people, cultures and tribes to define that for themselves.

Islamic culture says alcohol is a sin to them and if they accept it as their standard, so is it.

God applauded the Children of Recab for refusing to drink wine or strong drinks because their father instructed them to do so. God rewarded them for sticking the their conviction.

This Christian life is not about controversy, it is a life of orderliness and moderation.
