I am not from East but I have spent reasonable time in the East, there is no issue here. If you have been attending traditional marriage in the East, you will know this is a normal thing. But in most cases, the groom is not the one to do the bargaining directly, the groom usually have an elder who is knowledgeable in the game to speak for him.
